These ridiculous contracts are terrible for teams. So far Chiefs are the only exception. Good luck Baltimore, Denver. Cleveland. Arizona and Philly

kcjayhawks5 05-02-2023 05:15 PM

Patrick Mahomes - $450M - Signing Age - 24
Mike Trout - $426M - Signing Age - 27
Canelo Alvarez - $365M - Signing Age - 28
Bryce Harper - $330M - Signing Age - 26
Giancarlo Stanton - $325 - Signing Age - 25

How dare those criminal Chiefs pay Mahomes the largest sports contract in total value at the time. They should be ashamed. - Mike Florio

The reason it's 10 years is because Mahomes doesn't want distractions every 4 to 5 years. This gives him a piece of mind where he is going to have his successful career. I don't think he is worried about other quarterbacks making more money than he is and probably just assumes they get the big payday to go against their Franchise Cap. His endorsements helps so he can concentrate on winning championships.

LMAO I like how he just steamrolled the Brady issue in the same argument

You can bitch about the contract for a number of reasons if you want to but to basically say Mahomes won't stand up for himself and is getting pushed around? What an absolute useless gasbag Florio is. Jesus.

He wants to sit Patrick down and talk to him for a few minutes?? His dad was a ****ing pro athlete. You think he's some naive dumbass who doesn't know how contracts work? Get ****ed.

If I had twitter, I’d post this on Gloryhole’s wall! **** that guy.

weren't the talking heads impressed with his half billion dollar contract when he signed it about 3 years ago?

Chris Meck 05-02-2023 05:42 PM

I think Patrick is smart enough to understand that at some point, that is plenty of money, and winning is the only thing that is going to be satisfying. He wants the rings, gods bless him. Lucky us.

Now let's watch the other teams struggle with putting a roster together while they pay their guy. I'll bet most don't fare as well as Veach.

I feel like the Chiefs should want to tear up this deal and re-do it so their QB isn't the only one with really high cap hits while everyone else in the league is finding ways to cheat the cap.

My suspicion is that the Jalen Hurts contract is going to be the new standard structure. By the time his cap hits become a problem, the Eagles will just give him a new contract and start the cycle over. Re-do the contract every 4 years and keep kicking the can down the road until your QB is washed up in 10+ years.

Dak Prescott's deal is interesting. He has been paid $120M of cash ($40M per year) over the last 3 years with a total cap hit of only $63M ($21M per year). Somehow his cap hits are half of his actual cash flow, which is radically different from the Mahomes deal where his cash flow actually lines up very closely with the cap hits. Dallas & Philly added the void years in there to cheat the cap. And they'll keep finding ways to kick the can down the road. I bet Cincy will do the same thing with Burrow, which will allow them to keep both of his #1 quality receivers.

I just don’t see Cincy being able to pay Burrow a bag then Higgins $20 mil, and Chase probably $25-30 mil. I mean they could, but their defense and OL might not be awesome.

Did he? I didn’t watch the video because I don’t like hearing him.

AussieChiefsFan 05-02-2023 05:48 PM

The fact he only wants to look at one 3 year period is disingenuous.

I'm sure he only goes on about this to stir up a conversation, but it comes across like he doesn't understand that Mahomes would make a killing from endorsements and the like. How many super bowls will those top paid QBs win?

It's clear from the comments on the video that very few people are on the same page as Florio here.

The obvious bullshit problems with the comparisons aside,
My take on the mahomes contract is as follows: when two parties seek a win-win deal, the outcome often outperforms competitive negotiations.

Mahomes will now be the face of the NFL as a result of being associated with a team that will be a Perennial contender. This will enable him to capitalize on opportunities outside of the chiefs contract. The chiefs gain obvious benefits from having the best qb and more available resources.

Florio and Bayless' pillow talk should stay at Motel 6

We had Croyle as our QB again, it’s the man keeping us down.

Red Dawg 05-02-2023 07:32 PM

What Florio didn't bother to see is that his next years money is already guranteed and is every year. Every year two years are owed no matter what.

Chiefspants 05-02-2023 07:39 PM

Idk I'm still pretty convinced by Facebook Fans dumbass comments that Patrick was only after the money when he signed in 2020.
