I'm an easy lay, though.

If that deal were announced, I'd immediately start pumping myself over $20 million in FA next season, the potential of Dexter and the possibility of Fields shitting himself, us ending up in the top 10 and flipping that pick plus our late 1st for a shot at any of 5-8 guys who could've been the best talent in this year's draft.

The top of the '24 draft is a goddamn monster.

I'd be bummed - but there's still football to play and we still have the baddest mother****er on the planet under center. I'd get past it.

Imagine being able to do that and land in a position to snag the top LT in the draft or Marvin Harrison Jr.

Yeah….I’m nostalgic though.

I’d kinda like to see the big 3 lifers stay and kick ass.

Oh well

I also don’t really think it’s ideal we will come out of this whole thing with no Tyreek or no Chris jones

What if Jones suffers a season ending injury week 1? How would that be different than him sitting out or being on another team?

I just really wanna know when Quinnen Williams turned into an afterthought in these discussions.

Quinnen Williams is WAY closer to Chris Jones than Chris Jones is to the Aaron Donald that 'earned' that contract.

Aaron Donald was neck and neck with Reggie White in terms of pure dominance from the DT position. I mean he was an absolute monster at his apex. His stretch from 2017 to 2020 has to be close to the most dominant stretch of DL play ever. He was THAT good.

Jones is very very good. Again, HoF at his peak. But not Mount Rushmore of Defensive Linemen at his peak. And someday, if not already, Quinnen Williams will be that 'very very good' level of player in his own right, IMO.

Yes...The fact they are mentioned together in the same breath bothers me. Even this past season, CJ wasn't close to the dominance Aaron Donald displayed for most of his career and it was CJ's defining season.

CJ has been a good player. Last year was the first time I felt he was great. Even in his 2018 season where he had 15 sacks, he was awful against the run and the defense was historically bad.

Veach's mistake was not making a trade at the beginning of the off-season when the value was the highest. CJ talking out his ass about wanting to be a Chief for life etc may have tricked us all.

He might have wanted that Mahomes/Kelce endorsement money at some point. A minute ago, he might have been in line for it, given the fan love for the kid and the player. Now, I don't see it.

You have to have a trade partner on the other side to play ball.

I honestly don't think anyone wants to take on his predicted contract.

Arch Stanton 08-25-2023 04:59 PM

Jones is worth, what the league says he's worth.

Somehow, I missed the conga line of other teams tryin ta trade for CJ.

He was good, when he needed ta be good.

But for the Chiefs, or CJ?

Which is why I keep saying he needs to take the Taylor route.

Give him permission to seek a trade. See who wants to give him $30 million.

If nobody's going to blink, the only thing you can do is hold his eyelids open "A Clockwork Orange" style. FORCE him to see reality.

If he's right - make a trade rather than keep an unhappy player. If he's not, maybe he gets reasonable in a hurry.

Exactly

Top 5 DT’s in terms of average annual value.

Only Aaron Donald is over 30 and his contract already looks like a mistake that other teams will not replicate:

1. Aaron Donald, Los Angeles Rams: $31.66 million (3 years, $95 million)

2. Quinnen Williams, New York Jets: $24 million (4 years, $96 million)

3. Jeffery Simmons, Tennessee Titans: $23.5 million (4 years, $94 million)

4 (tie). Daron Payne, Washington Commanders: $22.5 million (4 years, $90 million)

4 (tie). Dexter Lawrence, New York Giants: $22.5 million (4 years, $90 million)

DJ's left nut 08-25-2023 05:27 PM

I think the Giants might have gotten a screaming bargain on Lawrence.

He's genuinely unique. He's piling up pressures as a true 0 technique. That gives you unparalleled flexibility in how you use your front.

He's really underrated.

tyecopeland 08-25-2023 05:34 PM

Why does everyone keep saying that last year was a contract year? Did we change the definition to the 2nd year before possible free agency without me knowing it?

Or are we just using it this way because Jones is trying to get a new contract now?
