Believe me...I would rather see Jones in a Chiefs uniform this year but the longer this goes, the less it seems likely.

What if he holds out and then comes back in week 8 and plays lights out.....win for the Chiefs and win for Jones in his negotiations for a big payday next year.

What if he holds out and plays average or below average.....sucks for the Chiefs and sucks for him because his market value exponentially decreases.

I think the Aaron Donald contract is making everyone a bit skittish in paying a IL near age 30 a long term contract that eats up too much Cap space for what could be/might be a great player.

From my perspective...and as much as we all hate it, we may need to trade this year....and pick up some draft picks in the deal that can pay off for a younger and lower paid talent hungry player wanting to make a name.

Yeah our defense will suffer without Jones to wreak havoc...but you are going to have to learn to adjust somehow.

We may have to go the route of New England when they had Brady in his heyday. They were always letting premium talent walk or were traded because of salary cap pressure. If you draft well it's workable. The key is the draft. In Varch I trust.

Losing a MOTIVATED Jones definitely will suck. Keeping a sour, unmotivated lockerrom concern at $20mm who is willing to miss 8 games to make a point also sucks. The entire scenario kind of sucks!

Thats the danger of waiting will next year to pull the trade lever.

Agreed. We thought when Tyreek left we were screwed. Run is over. Mahomes made it irrelevant when he showed he could throw it short if thats all the defense was going to give him.

We cant pay a 34 year old DT $30 million a year. Mahomes doesn't play defense but shit just seems to work out with his teams.

The "real" crisis is coming when Kelce or Reid retires.

Jones sitting till week 8 is a potential career earnings suicide for him.

What am I missing here?

He appears to be kind of dumb is what you’re missing.

Didn’t work out too well for Leveon Bell.

He's not going to sit until week 8. He'll miss out on a million plus per game until then, and his franchise tag number would shrink drastically for next season. He'd end up costing himself around 20 mil if he did that. I don't think many players are quite that dumb, and especially not CJ.

No question this drama hurts the Chiefs, but it has the potential to be disastrous both professionally and financially for CJ. Hopefully someone figures out how to salvage a Lose/Lose situation so each side can claim a small victory

CJ has never impressed me with his smarts...

This....time a million.

You can't really out-think Reid for long....his football acumen is stunning. There should be a statue at 1 Arrowhead Drive for this guy when he retires..and a street leading to the stadium named after him.

Clark Hunt should be appreciated for the fact that he jumped on getting Reid before anyone else had the chance...and wouldn't leave until he came home with him.

When Kelce retires, we are screwed, unless we pick up another Tight End in his mold. I'm not the college expert that some in here are....but I do know there are a couple next year that we could target. Or maybe one of the really good ones that are in the pros right now want to finish their career playing with Mahomes and picking up that elusive SB ring
