IIRC, Duncan was the one who gave word that “more was coming” before the tape broke and had correct news about Ariel during the Britt Reid debacle. No need to bring up that laundry into this thread though. |

That I share things I hear on a message board I’ve been part of for 20 years? Yeah, that’s a really big issue , isn’t it? I put my mea culpa in on Hill long ago. Statistically, it is very rare for a domestic abuse “victim” to be staging it/making it up. In this case, that now looks like what happened. What she was telling police initially and then recanted was 1) damning and 2) not rare for a victim to recant. But I’ve learned from it and try to be better (like giving more context around rumors when I talk rumors). But thanks for popping by our thread. Stay a while. The Royals are on the rise. |

On MLB Network tonight, and Witt's leading off.

That was seriously impressive. Witt leads off the game with a 12 pitch AB and worked a walk against Julio Urias, That was legit.
|
Then he scores from 2nd on a muffed ground ball by the SS. Putting on a show on national TV.
|
This kid is gonna be fun to watch when he gets to the The Show.
Hope I get to catch him at some games in Soringfield when NWA comes to town (assuming he starts the year there like I think he will). |
Bubba crushed that!
|
Heck of a start. Knocked Urias out after 2/3 of an inning and Bubba hits a grand slam off the reliever.
|
I’m telling you Witt will be on the opening day roster. No hit Nicky can go. It’s Witt time
|
any highlights available? and I did look tia
|
And then Witt smashes a HR to left. Get your jerseys now.
|
Damn! The hype is all real!
|
Witt with a bomb!! I swear Royals don’t **** this up

Service time blah blah blah. You start him day 1 and don’t look back.

That serves Urias cocky ass for coming back in the game, when did they change the rule where a pitcher can re-enter a game ?

Safe to say, whether Witt is on the opening day roster isn’t gonna be Dayton’s call, it’s gonna be Sherman’s. I think you play him.
|
Yeah he's ready. Urias is no joke. YOLO Dayton. YOLO

I’m willing to bet he won’t. |
How long does witt need to be in the minors to not lose a year

Best prospect since Hosmer?
Does Witt stay at short when he gets called up or do you move him to second? I heard Petro mention possibly moving Mondi to center. I’m not sure I like that idea though. |
Nice play by Loftin

Jesus, y’all. This kid could be enough of a boost to almost make us a contender alone.

I won’t complain either way with Witt.
If they send him down to AA and he kills it for a few weeks, send him to AAA. If he destroys the ball there, call him and send him to 3B. It would be good for him to be tested and see the type of junk/slop they throw at AAA. But he’s also so precocious it might not matter. |
Quote:
|
Still start him in AA but if he absolutely rakes you move him on up quicker than planned.
|
Whitt definitely playing more 2B than I was expecting in Spring Training. Sending him to AA gives he and Lopez a month to make their respective cases. Lopez technically has Isbel breathing down his neck as well, since his promotion would push Merrifield to 2B. Lots of scenarios for Lopez to lose his job unless he balls out of the gate.

Nick Pratto continues to hit. He's having a really solid spring.

There is zero chance Witt makes opening day roster. Why would you burn service time? He's really never been in the minors. If he rakes and you bring him up in June to minimize the service time hit.

With all the Whitt Jr. discussion happening - if you missed this, it's worth marveling at.

was all set to watch the game last night, but nope, for some stupid reason, MLB sees L.A. close enough to San Diego to black it out in my area.
Extremely stupid, especially considering it's just a spring training game. |
ITS HAPPENING!!

And one final thing before I return to my retirement/man/cave, hearing there is a very strong sentiment, judging from my messages, that the Royals clubhouse believes the team would be way better off with Bobby Witt Jr. on the Opening Day roster, damn the service time issues.
— Jeffrey Flanagan (@FlannyMLB) March 15, 2021
 |
WOW.

If you’re wondering why Witt looks like Tulo now, he works with trainer Bobby Strouoe out of Dallas. He’s got clients like the guy Witt is most often compared to Trevor Story.
Oh. And that one guy who plays QB for the Chiefs, what’s his name |

I think those Story comparisons are going to fade. That was based on him having some significant contact and swing and miss issues. Those seem to have been ... addressed. And quickly. Witt used to have some holes in his swing that just... simply aren’t there now. And he did that without sacrificing bat speed or power. He just fixed his holes AND improved his plate discipline. (It appears) I hope everyone recognizes 1) how hard/rare it is to fix ONE of those issues 2) how insane it is to fix BOTH. We may have someone incredibly special on our hands here. |

Putting Witt on the opening day roster is one of the dumbest things any team in baseball can do right now. If this team was ready to win a WS maybe it's more defendable...but even then not really.
|
IF they send Witt to the bigs, which is the better/likely defensive alignment? Dozier at 3b, Witt at 2B and Whit in RF? Or Witt at 3B, Whit at 2B and Dozier in RF?

Ftr I'm against starting Witt jr on the opening day roster but I just saw two reports that confirmed that Matheny is pushing for Witt on the opening day roster from sources I don't know how to evaluate. Sherman may be in his corner according to a different media outlet that I have no respect for. Opinions are like assholes, damn near everyone has one.
I'm at peace with it if they do, but it's going to drive ticket prices up. I don't think Dayton will bow to the pressure. |
Not that I don't think he's incredible, but he is young and there is a huge difference between spring training and a regular season mlb game, especially with our division being pretty ****ing strong for smaller market teams. I know chicago is huge but the cubs have a bigger fanbase.

Two points
--Sometimes there are outlier situations and special players. Take for example Albert Pujols in 2001. It's totally unheard of and off the charts for a player to go directly from the low Single-A Midwest League straight to the majors and win Rookie of the Year. Pujols might be the most amazing outcome from an aggressive promotion. Every player's situation is different. Development isn't linear. --The Padres didn't play by the book when Fernando Tatis Jr. started Opening Day in 2019 at age 20. That was player-driven and clubhouse-driven too. Looking back at it now, the franchise built up goodwill with Tatis from that move and he felt compelled to extend with the Padres through age 35 after only 143 games played. And these are the same Padres that followed a similar low payroll, risk-adverse economic model as the Royals for 2 1/2 decades. |
One more
Juan Soto got promoted to the majors at age 19 in 2018 after only 15 games at high Single-A ball and eight games in Double-A ball. 99.8% of the players don't follow this developmental timeline, I totally understand the skeptics and naysayers, but sometimes there are outlier, special players and Witt Jr. might be one of them. |
Did Pratto fix his swing?
