If I remember you sold Tyreek down the river because of rumors from friends with your wife that had the goods. They supposedly were part of Reeks nursing care. Seems there is a bigger issue you have here.

That whole story was a mess. Why bring it up in this thread?

IIRC, Duncan was the one who gave word that “more was coming” before the tape broke and had correct news about Ariel during the Britt Reid debacle.

No need to bring up that laundry into this thread though.

It brings into question his sources that's why.

That I share things I hear on a message board I’ve been part of for 20 years?

Yeah, that’s a really big issue , isn’t it?

I put my mea culpa in on Hill long ago. Statistically, it is very rare for a domestic abuse “victim” to be staging it/making it up. In this case, that now looks like what happened. What she was telling police initially and then recanted was 1) damning and 2) not rare for a victim to recant.

But I’ve learned from it and try to be better (like giving more context around rumors when I talk rumors).

But thanks for popping by our thread. Stay a while. The Royals are on the rise.

Hope so. Might be nice to give the manager a break who was in his first MLB managerial position with an organization that thinks they are ordained world series champs every year. Maybe a young first time big league manager felt like maybe better to run with vets.

Only 3 first rounders ever made the Bigs.

On MLB Network tonight, and Witt's leading off.

tk13 03-14-2021 07:13 PM

That was seriously impressive. Witt leads off the game with a 12 pitch AB and worked a walk against Julio Urias, That was legit.

tk13 03-14-2021 07:18 PM

Then he scores from 2nd on a muffed ground ball by the SS. Putting on a show on national TV.

TomBarndtsTwin 03-14-2021 07:21 PM

This kid is gonna be fun to watch when he gets to the The Show.

Hope I get to catch him at some games in Soringfield when NWA comes to town (assuming he starts the year there like I think he will).

Why Not? 03-14-2021 07:25 PM

Bubba crushed that!

tk13 03-14-2021 07:25 PM

Heck of a start. Knocked Urias out after 2/3 of an inning and Bubba hits a grand slam off the reliever.

MAHOMO 4 LIFE! 03-14-2021 07:40 PM

I’m telling you Witt will be on the opening day roster. No hit Nicky can go. It’s Witt time

poolboy 03-14-2021 07:42 PM

any highlights available? and I did look tia

tk13 03-14-2021 07:46 PM

Service time blah blah blah. You start him day 1 and don’t look back.

I’m not too sure but I remember a couple years ago when Kris Bryant was sent down and he was there for like 32 games before they called him up because of the service time

louie aguiar 03-14-2021 08:46 PM

Best prospect since Hosmer?

Does Witt stay at short when he gets called up or do you move him to second? I heard Petro mention possibly moving Mondi to center. I’m not sure I like that idea though.

About 2 weeks or so.

Chiefspants 03-14-2021 08:53 PM

Jesus, y’all. This kid could be enough of a boost to almost make us a contender alone.

duncan_idaho 03-14-2021 09:14 PM

I won’t complain either way with Witt.

If they send him down to AA and he kills it for a few weeks, send him to AAA. If he destroys the ball there, call him and send him to 3B.

It would be good for him to be tested and see the type of junk/slop they throw at AAA.

But he’s also so precocious it might not matter.

Still start him in AA but if he absolutely rakes you move him on up quicker than planned.

dallaschiefsfan 03-14-2021 09:56 PM

Whitt definitely playing more 2B than I was expecting in Spring Training. Sending him to AA gives he and Lopez a month to make their respective cases. Lopez technically has Isbel breathing down his neck as well, since his promotion would push Merrifield to 2B. Lots of scenarios for Lopez to lose his job unless he balls out of the gate.

BWillie 03-14-2021 11:02 PM

There is zero chance Witt makes opening day roster. Why would you burn service time? He's really never been in the minors. If he rakes and you bring him up in June to minimize the service time hit.

Yeah, the blackout rules are the most antiquated and nonsensical rules I've ever heard of. I am blacked out from two teams from which I'm 2.5-3.5 hours away. People in Iowa are blacked out from SIX teams. You'd think that with all the concern about baseball being a dying sport, they'd be trying to make it easier to watch the games, not harder.

I think those Story comparisons are going to fade. That was based on him having some significant contact and swing and miss issues.

Those seem to have been ... addressed. And quickly.

Witt used to have some holes in his swing that just... simply aren’t there now. And he did that without sacrificing bat speed or power.

He just fixed his holes AND improved his plate discipline. (It appears)

I hope everyone recognizes 1) how hard/rare it is to fix ONE of those issues 2) how insane it is to fix BOTH.

We may have someone incredibly special on our hands here.

The fact that Royals players are comparing his batter's eye to being as transcendent as how Mahomes reads a secondary is.. yeah.

It's easy to get overhyped with prospects but the way he has just exploded this Spring (after a solid Spring last year) has been special to watch.

People need to slow down. Most young no name players are fed meat balls down the middle or the pitcher is throwing them a pitch they are working on. The hype is off the tracks and Pratto, Matias, Isbel, and Miller all have higher OPS than him in Spring Training and nobody really gives a **** about any of those guys outside of Isbel.

Putting Witt on the opening day roster is one of the dumbest things any team in baseball can do right now. If this team was ready to win a WS maybe it's more defendable...but even then not really.

dallaschiefsfan 03-15-2021 01:44 PM

IF they send Witt to the bigs, which is the better/likely defensive alignment? Dozier at 3b, Witt at 2B and Whit in RF? Or Witt at 3B, Whit at 2B and Dozier in RF?

No one gives a **** about Pratto?

MLB is so far behind on tv deals compared to the NFL.

MLB will never catch up to the NFL as long as each club is treated as its own entity and there's no hard salary cap based on TV broadcast revenues.

Well there you have it folks, Witt needs to be on the opening day roster, batting clean up and playing everyday.

Not really after the stinker of milb he's had. He's not even a Top 10 system prospect at this point.

Like our 2011 list.

11. Yordano
16. Salvy
30. Kelvin Herrera

It's about time for Mondesi to get hurt again. Witt can start at SS.

Duffy with 4 innings of no hit ball today with 4 K’s.

That’s about the most innings I trust that guy pitching at once.

I don't get me wrong, I think Witt Jr could actually be ready. But is 2 months worth screwing yourself out of that service time? Hell no. If he had a full year of minors under his belt there also would be a better argument. He needs sometime to go through the highs and lows of actual competitive baseball as well.

Ftr I'm against starting Witt jr on the opening day roster but I just saw two reports that confirmed that Matheny is pushing for Witt on the opening day roster from sources I don't know how to evaluate. Sherman may be in his corner according to a different media outlet that I have no respect for. Opinions are like assholes, damn near everyone has one.
I'm at peace with it if they do, but it's going to drive ticket prices up. I don't think Dayton will bow to the pressure.

bringbackmarty 03-15-2021 08:47 PM

Not that I don't think he's incredible, but he is young and there is a huge difference between spring training and a regular season mlb game, especially with our division being pretty ****ing strong for smaller market teams. I know chicago is huge but the cubs have a bigger fanbase.

Exactly this. That year is incredibly valuable, especially to a team like the Royals.

Two points

--Sometimes there are outlier situations and special players. Take for example Albert Pujols in 2001. It's totally unheard of and off the charts for a player to go directly from the low Single-A Midwest League straight to the majors and win Rookie of the Year. Pujols might be the most amazing outcome from an aggressive promotion. Every player's situation is different. Development isn't linear.

--The Padres didn't play by the book when Fernando Tatis Jr. started Opening Day in 2019 at age 20. That was player-driven and clubhouse-driven too. Looking back at it now, the franchise built up goodwill with Tatis from that move and he felt compelled to extend with the Padres through age 35 after only 143 games played. And these are the same Padres that followed a similar low payroll, risk-adverse economic model as the Royals for 2 1/2 decades.

Ocotillo 03-16-2021 12:56 AM

One more

Juan Soto got promoted to the majors at age 19 in 2018 after only 15 games at high Single-A ball and eight games in Double-A ball.

99.8% of the players don't follow this developmental timeline, I totally understand the skeptics and naysayers, but sometimes there are outlier, special players and Witt Jr. might be one of them.

Did Pratto fix his swing?
