USA/Switzerland in about 10 minutes (2ct)
Canada/Norway at 4:30
Russia/Latvia at 9

David Aebischer has really fallen off the map... not even on Team Switzerland this year. Guess he's more Team Swiss these days.

KC_Connection 02-16-2010 02:40 PM

The Swiss beat Canada in 2006 because of Martin Gerber...it wasn't a very good time for Canadians.

KC_Connection 02-16-2010 02:44 PM

I'm watching women's snowboard cross right now....none of them are able to get through the course...seemingly because of the fog. The Canadians (1st and 3rd in the world) weren't able to finish their runs.

jiveturkey 02-16-2010 03:05 PM

Vancouver is turning out to be the worst winter venue ever.

CTV on my slingbox. NBC doesn't seem to show a lot of stuff live.

Although now I'm watching NBC coverage of the biathalon. This Canadian just choked on his shot...he would have been in 1st...back to 4th...this French guy leads.

Take the Canadiens time and add about :30 cause he started early. It'll be added at the end.

How do you start early in a timed competition? Aren't there people telling you when to start at intervals?

Scoring error. They've adjusted the time. So he's currently like 3rd on the course but 7th on the timing list.

KC_Connection 02-16-2010 03:51 PM

The world #1 just crashed on her 2nd run of Snowboard Cross. All she had to do was finish basically, and she would have qualified in the top 16. She wasn't even going fast...quite the choke.

the Talking Can 02-16-2010 04:56 PM

The_Doctor10 02-16-2010 04:57 PM

2nd gold medal on Canadian soil WOOT!!!! Women's Snowboard Cross FTW congratulations Maelle Ricker!

I hate to admit it, but I'm kinda digging curling.

USA Women vs Japan, match halfway done, USA 5-4

Yup.

If not for USA's leader/closer, they'd be up about 8-2 right now.

And thanks to NBC's great coverage, you just posted a spoiler.

alnorth 02-16-2010 05:32 PM

correction, its tied 4-4.

I kinda like the end of the 5th end, 2 rocks left when I turned it on, USA was up 4-1 but Japan had 5 rocks in scoring position, I was thinking "holy crap, how did they screw it up so bad!"

Apparently they thought the same thing, called one of their 2 1-minute time outs, the USA coach came down and told them what to do (limit the damage, they can cut three of Japan's stones off from scoring position). Placed it perfectly, Japan couldnt even knock it out, so they had to settle with just tossing one more into scoring position to score 3 instead of 5.

alnorth 02-16-2010 05:42 PM

6th end, USA has 2 in scoring position, 4 rocks left

2 rocks left, USA has the hammer and still has 2 in scoring position

interesting, USA has an easy 2, but is going for a risky shot to get 3

kstater 02-16-2010 05:47 PM

That was ****ing reeruned.

You're gauranteed to sleep with one of either Courtney Love or Jessica Simpson and you choose Courtney Love.

alnorth 02-16-2010 05:47 PM

USA gets 2 in the 6th end. Japan will have the hammer in the 7th end. USA 6-4

alnorth 02-16-2010 05:52 PM

what the hell was the point of that? USA just threw away a stone

alnorth 02-16-2010 05:55 PM

7th end, 6 rocks left, Japan +1

4 rocks left, Japan +1

bad shot for USA, good shot for Japan. 2 rocks left, Japan +3

Japan scores 3. End of the 7th end, Japan 7-6, USA has the hammer in the 8th end.

kstater 02-16-2010 06:00 PM

This last chick for the Americans is sucking balls.

It boggles my mind that sports can even have 'spoilers' in this day and age... It's a sporting event, not the end of 'Empire Strikes Back'. Come on NBC, get it together and give it to ABC.

DrRyan 02-16-2010 06:08 PM

Trying to watch a bit on nbcolympics.com, but that site is brutal. I can't get a live feed for anything.

alnorth 02-16-2010 06:09 PM

8th end

6 rocks left, USA +1

4 rocks left, USA +1

USA doesnt seem to be playing this end very well

This could be a disaster. USA is putting themselves in a position where they might have to make a tough shot to score 1, or if they miss Japan could score without the hammer.

2 rocks left, USA +1

USA is forced to settle for 1 point, tied 7-7, Japan has the hammer in the 9th end.

the Talking Can 02-16-2010 06:13 PM

americans have choked badly, this should have been over...

alnorth 02-16-2010 06:16 PM

beginning of the 9th end, tied 7-7, Japan with the hammer

8 rocks left, Japan +2

6 rocks left, Japan +2

horrible shot from USA, 5 rocks left, Japan +2, Japan calls timeout

4 rocks left, Japan +2, Japan had a chance to really put USA in big trouble, but missed

awesome shot from USA, 2 rocks left, Japan only +1

Japan scores 1 in the 9th, Japan 8-7, USA has the hammer in the 10th end

Neuner from Biathalon was cute.

alnorth 02-16-2010 06:36 PM

10th end, Japan 8-7, USA has the hammer. Need 1 point to tie, 2 for the win

12 rocks left, USA +2

10 rocks left, USA +2

Terrible shot for USA

8 rocks left, Japan +2

6 rocks left, Japan +2

4 rocks left, Japan +2

3 rocks left, Japan +3, USA is in HUGE trouble and will struggle to tie

Good shot from USA, but not good enough yet

2 rocks left, Japan +1

1 rock left, Japan +1, USA has to get their point now or they lose. They have a very tough shot to get it.

CLOSE, they have to bring in the measuring device, either its a tie or Japan won

Fail, Japan steals a point in the 10th.

Final: Japan wins 9-7

kstater 02-16-2010 06:43 PM

Another ****ing choke.

kstater 02-16-2010 06:45 PM

Japan with a weird strategy. Going to let USA back in.

alnorth 02-16-2010 06:53 PM

This is it, USA either forces an extra end or lose the game on this throw.

kstater 02-16-2010 06:56 PM

SPchief 02-16-2010 06:56 PM

In the "winter" Olympics, no!!! Especially since there are like 57 different versions.. I'm not saying I could do any of it, but figure skating without a girl on the ice, just isn't right.

tomorrow, Saturday, next Wednesday, and then the last day is next Thursday.

So, after today, 6 out of the next 12 days have figure skating. (11 if you dont count the last day, which only has cross-country and the hockey gold medal game)

sadly, this is one of the strongest years for men's figure skating in USA history. We are favored to get 2 medals.

Oh, and ice dancing too, I guess we have two strong teams there too, but its hard to call ice dancing a sport. At least with pairs its difficult and you got throws and jumps and stuff.

There's a difference between ice dancing and figure skating?

in ice dancing, the couple is touching throughout. That means no throws, no jumps, no real chance to fall. Its mostly all "artistic", which means the couple that has the hottest groping makeout session to arouse the judges wins. If they really want to win, they should go out there naked.

correction: they can now briefly seperate, but must remain within 2 arm-lengths at all times. jumps (except "half jumps", whatever that is) and throws are forbidden.

the Talking Can 02-16-2010 07:25 PM

I think they get all the hard stuff out of the way immediately before they get tired. The rest is choreography with the music.

The_Doctor10 02-16-2010 08:50 PM

Game on, curling, USA Men vs Norway, not on TV, nbcolympics.com

alnorth 02-16-2010 09:11 PM

1st end, USA with the hammer

8 rocks left, USA +1

6 rocks left, USA +1

4 rocks left, USA +1

Good shot from USA to preserve the point

2 rocks left, USA +1

No score! USA tactically chose to score no points to keep the hammer in the second end.

tie game after 1 end, 0-0

alnorth 02-16-2010 09:22 PM

2nd end, 0-0, USA with the hammer

10 rocks left, USA +1

8 rocks left, zero

6 rocks left, USA +1

4 rocks left, USA +1

2 rocks left, USA +1

Great shot from Norway, looks like they stole a point. They have to measure it.

Norway scores 1 point, 1-0 Norway at the end of 2 ends.

alnorth 02-16-2010 09:38 PM

3rd end, Norway leads 1-0, USA with the hammer

12 rocks left, USA +2

10 rocks left, Norway +1

Bad shot by Norway

8 rocks left, USA +3, potential for a lot of points here

6 rocks left, USA +3

Great shot by Norway to limit the damage, 3 is no longer likely

4 rocks left, USA +2

Another great shot by Norway

2 rocks left, USA +1

No score, Norway leads 1-0 after 3 ends, USA will have the hammer for a 4th end in a row.

alnorth 02-16-2010 09:52 PM

4th end, Norway leads 1-0, USA with the hammer

10 rocks left, USA +1

8 rocks left, USA +1

6 rocks left, USA +1

4 rocks left, USA +1

Thats the second F-bomb I've heard muttered from team USA!

Not a good shot

2 rocks left, Norway +1

USA scores 1 point, tied 1-1 after 4 runs

SoCalBronco 02-16-2010 09:58 PM

Man....when Sid has an oppurtunity to play with talented players on his line, he is just out of this world sick. Just sick.

alnorth 02-16-2010 10:07 PM

5th end, tied 1-1, Norway with the hammer

10 rocks left, Norway +1

8 rocks left, Norway +1

Great set up by USA. It would be difficult for Norway to score more than 1

6 rocks left, Norway +1

Welp, USA screwed that up

4 rocks left, Norway +2

2 rocks left, Norway +1

Wow! Nice!

1 rock left, USA +3 Norway will probably still score, but its not gonna be more than 1 point

It was a high-pressure must-make shot, but they did it. Norway scores 1 point, Norway leads 2-1 after 5 ends

alnorth 02-16-2010 10:30 PM

OK I admit it, I went ahead and watched our world-champion, and that was pretty impressive

alnorth 02-16-2010 10:32 PM

6th end, Norway leads 2-1, USA with the hammer

8 rocks left, USA +1

Bad shot by Norway

6 rocks left, USA +1

not sure what USA is doing here

4 rocks left, Norway +1

2 rocks left, USA +1

I dont think USA has a chance at scoring more than 1

No score, Norway leads 2-1 after 6 ends

alnorth 02-16-2010 10:44 PM

7th end, Norway leads 2-1, USA with the hammer

10 rocks left, USA +1

8 rocks left, USA +1

6 rocks left, USA +1

4 rocks left, Norway +1 or USA +1 or USA +2, I cant tell

Norway is in a tough spot, if they arent careful, USA could score a lot here

Norway decided to make sure to not let USA score more than 2

2 rocks left, USA +2

1 rock left, This is going to be close, not sure if USA will have +1 or +2 at the end of this

USA scores 2!

USA leads 3-2 after 7 ends

007 02-16-2010 10:59 PM

Our flaming gay figure skater did halfway decent and might be able to fight for a bronze, our world champion is a close 2nd and will go for gold on Thursday, our USA champion completely bombed out with a choke-tacular performance.

alnorth 02-16-2010 11:02 PM

8th end, USA leads 3-2, Norway with the hammer

8 rocks left, Norway +1

6 rocks left, Norway +2

Fantastic shot by USA, its going to be really hard for Norway to do much

4 rocks left, Norway +1

Another good defensive shot by USA to try to limit Norway to 1 point

2 rocks left, Norway +1

1 rock left, USA +1, another must-make shot coming for Norway

Damn, Norway pulled out a pretty clever shot to score 2

Norway leads 4-3 after 8 ends
