I was hoping for Cassel to succeed. That was until this year. I'm satisfied he has reached his top potential. I'd keep him as a reliable game-managing back up if he agreed to a pay cut. But you have another opinion about him and that's alright.

The former Chiefs coach released a statement through his agent. It reads:

“First, I would like to thank Clark Hunt and the kansas city chiefs for giving me the opportunity to coach this historic franchise. Growing up in the NFL, watching my Dad help build those great Pittsburgh Steeler teams, I have a profound love for this league. This opportunity has been a dream come true.

i would like to sincerely thank my coaches and my players for their commitment and loyalty throughout my time with the chiefs.

i would like to thank all of the great chiefs fans. my wife chrissy and i would also like to thank the city of kansas city for welcoming us and our 5 children and making us feel at home.

i am proud to have been a part of continued improvement and the first afc west title since 2003. this year has been extremely challenging, but despite losing several key players to injury and free agency, we have been able to remain competitive and remain in contention with 3 games remaining in the season. i wish the coaches and players good luck down the stretch.

NFL football is extremely competitive. Being hired and fired is part of this business. i want to thank everyone for their support and i look forward to my next opportunity in this great league."

I just think he deserves a year with some stability and sanity to see if he can become something good. I think Pioli screwed up with Failey in the first place and was NEVER on board with that hire. I think if keeping Cassel means that we don't get a good experienced HC then that is a problem. But I think most FAIR people can see the lack of consistency he was forced to deal with over the last three years with all of the changes in personnel he was dealing with. I think he'll do better with less drama and dysfunction.

Hopefully today is the last day we have to hear about from this psycho regarding the Chiefs.

I wish someone would have asked Pioli how it is that a coach who took the team to the playoffs by winning the division and was named the AFC Coach of the Year less than a year ago is suddenly so bad he needs to be fired in a season where we've lost many key players (including Pioli's golden boy Cassel) to injury...

Don't get me wrong, I know heads typically roll after a shitty season like this, but I really thought Haley would get one more season all things considered. I just want to see what Pioli would say when you lay it out like that...

To be fair from 1989 to 2001, it wasn't the best time to be drafting QBs in the first round especially in our draft position. Todd Marinovich, Tommy Maddox, etc.

Now from 2001 on is when have really ****ed up.
Brees, Rodgers, Flacco, Sanchez, Freeman, etc.

Tyson Jackson is starting to hit his stride as a 3-4 DE and doing well - the pick of him as a player by itself isn't / wasn't an issue. What was an issue is where in the draft he was taken ( 3rd overall ?!?! ). Even moreso, its taken a 3-4 DE without spending complimentary picks or acquiring a free agent / trade for a really good NT or more LBs. KC is basically playing a 2-2, with a weak link at nose and two LBer positions. But probably the worse factor was that a 3-4 DE was not the biggest need for the team - and that's the most damning part of that pick. Even a really good 3-4 DE is not going to impact your team the way other positions could.

KC needs to clean house - new GM, new HC, and new QB. Just start over.

To be fair, 3 years ago EVERYBODY thought that Scott Pioli was God's gift to Football.

Actually I am now totally rooting for us to lose out and at least secure a high draft position. I was a supporter of Haley's enough to not want him fired yet. But that ship has sailed. All I want from the rest of the season is hopefully to see and evaluate Stanzi on the field, and to end up with a good draft position.

I agree. Hell, if Pioli just cuts Cassel and does all he can to get us one of the top 3 QBs, I think Chiefs fans will say "ok he has ****ed up at times but this is him fixing it" and give him a chance again. Sticking with Cassel only cements his failure.
