Holliday the Anti-Clutch? What's not to hate? When you absolutely, positively need a run or an inning extended, he's right there with a weak grounder to the pitcher.

But of course, he makes up for it with his mediocre-at-best fielding. And he's batting in the 3-spot! And is also the highest paid guy on the team! WOOHOO

I don't really either. Honestly, it's mostly Fraz and Hamas. Although I will admit, their tirades make for some good reads. ;)

Silly me. Why wouldn't I want a light-hitting choke artist batting in the heart of our line-up?

Do you miss Theriot as well?

That is exactly the sentiment I don't get. The "clutch" comments, defense and contract.

Frazod 04-28-2012 11:06 AM

Apparently several of you are related to Holliday.

whoman69 04-28-2012 01:49 PM

Since signing the big contract after the 2010 season Matt is hitting . 285, slugging .505 but the question remains if he is doing that with runners in scoring position. He has only 87 RBI in 532 AB.

DJ's left nut 04-29-2012 03:24 PM

Total team effort today. Nice job, fellas.

It took literally every single person on the team to manage to lose that !@#$ing game today.

From everyone's complete indifference with runners in scoring position to Garcia's predictable implosion to Matheny's hairbrained double steal on a hit and run with 2-strikes on the hitter - nobody didn't do their part to choke away the sweep.

The goddamn towel boy had to show up with his head up his ass today for them to lose this one.

Complete effort all around, gentlemen. Hold your heads high - every one of you were critical to today's outcome.

Christ - what an absolutely miserable loss.

Pretty much, yeah.

Essentially he is offered back to his former club. If they pass, he goes through waivers (where everyone else has to pass). If nobody claims him, then and only then can he go back to the minors.

In other words, Komatsu's gone.

Should've cut Greene or optioned Robinson instead, IMO. I don't care if Greene's out of options, he's a dogshit ballplayer.

O.city 05-01-2012 06:38 PM

I don't really understand what Greene brings to the club. Hell, I'd rather they rush Wong along.

Backup SS for Furcal, I guess, in the event of a long-term Furcal injury.

Ultimately if Furcal is injured I'd rather see Descalso slide over to SS and Skip at 2b. Yeah - Greene's that bad.

He's Theriot levels of awful.

I think all of us on this thread agree on Greene. I dont blame the front office. He absolutely rakes in AAA. He does have all the raw talent. But for whatever reason he is just not able to replicate that in the big show. We need to cut bait.

O.city 05-01-2012 07:50 PM

This team can surely hit.

I think he would better suited in a small market that draws >20000/game. He doesn't seem to respond to pressure. Reminds me of Khalil Green.

O.city 05-01-2012 07:53 PM

Berkmann comes back healthy, with the addition of a healthy Craig, this lineup could have 7 guys that could hit over 300.

Yea, you have to ask yourself why Frese is hitting behind Beltran at this point.

The Pirates pitching has been very very good this year and we have put a 6 spot on them in 5 innings.

O.city 05-01-2012 07:56 PM

IMO, the best lineup would be with Beltran in the 2 hole in front of Holliday.

Furcal
Beltran
Holliday
Berkmann
Freese
Craig
Molina
Descalso
P

Or Jay hitting 2 with Beltran where Craig is.

Hell, put Schumaker in the 8th hole. I'm not a huge fan of him, but he can hit a little.

If they can get the pitching staff healthy, this team is gonna have a good chance to make some noise. By that I mean Carpenter.

I would love for them to bring Miller up to be the 5th man this year, but I'm just being greedy.

Dude, he's not that bad. Listening to you trash him every day you must think he's Green, Lizzy and Franklin all rolled up into one pathetic player.

He's not that bad. So he's not "clutch". He is still a valuable part of the team. He moved his family to st. Louis. Does charity work. He is good friends with Freese, pal around in the off season.Working to keep Freese from crawling back into the bottle. Invites minor league talent to work out with them in St. Louis. He palys with passion. There are more parts that are needed on a team other than "clutch".

That's nice if he's making $4 mil a year and batting seventh.

He isn't.

He got two dWI's when he was in the minor leagues with the Cardinals. His ankles were broken in one DWI wreck. The cardinals threaten to release him if he didn't get cleaned up. He was driving drunk all the time. I believe he's been sober for 3 years now.

I love the fact that during the World Series, the eventual World Series MVP was staying at a friend's house on his couch because his house didn't have cable yet.

From todays article in the SPD - Matt Holliday has officially heated up, batting .333 with three homers and 13 RBIs in his last 12 games.

Good article with some pretty funny jabs at AP.

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/bernie-miklasz/bernie-cardinals-make-forecasts-look-silly/article_1872b8d9-abf7-5f24-916c-14f47d5beed2.html

"Pujols’ de facto replacement, Carlos Beltran, had two homers and seven RBIs in the first three innings Wednesday. Compare that to Pujols, who had no homers and five RBIs in his first 205 innings this season. Disneyland is down the street from the Angels’ ballpark; I’m guessing we’ll soon find Moreno boarding the "California Screamin" ride at the amusement park.
The gracious Beltran is such a class act, he’ll probably donate a few of his homers and RBIs to the Pujols Family Foundation."

BigRedChief 05-03-2012 08:10 PM

I hate that Larussa gave up on the chance to sweep on getaway games. Looks like Matheny is taking the same approach. Rolled out the "B" lineup and lost.

The only saving grace is their theory of its a 162 game season and that players need to be rested or they dont have the strength to make a stretch run at the end or any gas left in the tank for the playoffs.

That approach certaintly worked out well last year. :hmmm:

DJ's left nut 05-03-2012 09:09 PM

It wasn't really the B lineup today, just a day off for Beltran (who needed on, last night notwithstanding).

I'm pulling this directly from my ass, but they just don't seem to gear up for day games. They may get a run or two early, then they try to coast for the remainder.

You could see that outcome coming even before Alvarez hit the dinger that gave them the 3-2 lead; the Cards were either gonna win that game 2-1, or they were gonna lose it.

Sho 'nuff...

Scott Pilgrim 05-03-2012 10:37 PM

In the long run I like the B team plan after you win the first two. The goal should be to win series but you need to get players rest and almost as important is to get your bench player action. These guys may be needed in the clutch times its better they are not rusty
