At least Alex Smith has worked with AJ for a year. I'm sure he provided some good intel on if he is worth anything. I'm glad to see Baldwin gone but hate the wasted potential...and pick.
|
Should make for an interesting side story when both teams meet up in Super Bowl XLVIII

The Oline is mostly young and needs to gel. We still don't have the receivers we need but Trent Green didn't either. He did have a wall for an oline and that gave them time to get open. The defense is very good and could be top 5 by the end of the year. (except for Spiro T. Agnew at corner). We won 2 games last year with 6 probowlers on the team. There is talent to build on here. |

They just released the depth chart for this week. Avery is the #2 followed by Wylie than Jenkins.

Hmmm? From what I can see, we just obtained a pussy and the 9ers got a guy with a 10 cent head, does that about cover it?
Bottom line, there was nothing to lose for either team, so what the hell, roll the dice. |

Or you can break it down like this. A giant of a man that plays like a pussy, and a scrawny runt that is a pussy and gets treated as such. They just switched spots. |

Even if he never does anything else, it would be hilarious if he goes out and gets 100 yards and 2 TDs against Jacksonville. It won't happen but it would be funny.

Jenkins is behind Avery and Wylie at the #2 WR spot.

When the biggest highlight of your short 2 1/4 year NFL career as a FIRST ROUND pick is a catch that was called back, you know your time is up!
There's not a single ounce of remorse in me for shedding this piece of dead weight. GOOD RIDDANCE! |
Jon Baldwin finally gets to play with a real QB, so there's that.
|
From what I am hearing in San Fran, they had no one left who was willing to clean the toilets so the Baldwin trade will work out well for them.
|
Glad they got rid of Baldwin. But biggest win is that we can stop wasting time with Baldwin running with the 1's, and finally see what Avery's got.

The bottom line is that Baldwin had no future here and was going to be cut.
Jenkins comes here with no expectations, so if he works out, great. If not, oh well. It's a mutually beneficial trade. |
Anything was preferable to just cutting him and then seeing him show up in New England, Green Bay, Dallas or Pittsburgh and then become a key part of a Super Bowl run.

Just heard 49ers "insider" Matt Barrows on the radio discussing Jenkins.
He said Baalke traded Jenkins because the coaches demanded it. He said Jenkins had to go because of bad work ethic and just not taking things seriously and no motivation. He said he thinks it could have been a locker-room cancer to keep him as the 5th or 6th WR, when much harder working guys got cut. As if the veterans might be upset over keeping a guy who won't work hard. He mentioned a sideline shot during the KC SF game where Jenkins was joking with the other WRs and they were having none of it. Shut him down. Just completely ignored him. Nobody wanted him there from his coaches to the other WRs. Barrows repeated about some guys being the first in the door every morning (Kaepernick) and made it sound like Jenkins was the last to come in each day and the first to leave. He talked about guys staying late and working round the clock, making it sound like Jenkins did not put in any extra effort. He talked about Harbaugh's continued praise of Quinton Patton and Patton's drive and dedication and motivation. The implication is Jenkins is the opposite. Bottom line, he made it sound like Jenkins was just very lazy with no dedication and no desire to learn his craft or develop his skills. If the Chiefs can fix that, the performance will come. Frankly, I don't believe it is fixable. Guys have it or don't. You can't coach self-motivation or work ethic any more than you can make a short-haired chic grow her hair out long, or get a chic that wears sweats to bed to start wearing lingerie. It is either there from the start, or it isn't. Maybe this is a wake up call. Chiefs can only hope. |
Baldwin and Jenkins sound like the same guy. They got paid, and then get the "I made it" attitude.
|
WR 17 Donnie Avery 19 Devon Wylie A.J. Jenkins 8 Josh Bellamy 85 Frankie Hammond Jr.
WR 82 Dwayne Bowe 22 Dexter McCluster 88 Junior Hemingway 15 Terrance Copper 14 Tyler Shoemaker 84 Jamar Newsome 83 Rico Richardson I find the new depth chart kind of interesting. Wylie and McCluster as the #1 sub on both sides, when they are actually slot. That makes Hemingway the top sub for Bowe and AJ is starting as the top sub for Avery. If Avery does not work out as the #2 guy opposite Bowe, who gets the chance to at that spot? Hemingway (Mr. 7th round)? or AJ (Mr.1st round)? |
so we traded shit for shit.

Hemingway 1 reception for 7 yards If you want to talk about most consistent, try Jamar Newsome with 4 receptions for 27 yards. Avery has been suspect since before he got here. Speed merchant with questionable hands. I would love it if he panned out as a guy to take the top off defense. Not sure I am in the boat of picking him over the field at this point. |
has he seriously only caught 1 ball?
...please tell me I read things completely wrong |
Just when you think Pioli coulld not suck any worse, you realize he can. Getting absolutely NOTHING from 1st round picks is ****ING AWESOME! Matt Millen has nothing on Scott Pioli.

Baldwin was gonna leave the team one way or another, so might as well take a chance on a guy who has the physical skills to fit the new scheme better. Best of luck to Jon on a legit Superbowl caliber team, and we can keep our fingers crossed that Jenkins change of environment is the wake up call he needs to put up or shut up. He can go home and actually get a real job, or play his ass off and live up to his physical potential.
|
I think Donnie Avery can do nicely. Get him going with the starters and see if we can finally start throwing to some receivers next game.

Pioli also organized a trade with former colleague Thomas Dimitroff, later the general manager of the Atlanta Falcons, that sent longtime Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez to Atlanta in exchange for a draft pick that brought Javier Arenas to the Chiefs. Pioli was responsible for the hiring of Cassel and his back up Brady Quinn as quarterbacks. The Chiefs had the worst record in the NFL for interceptions (20) in 2012 (Cassel threw 12 and Quinn threw 8). The Chiefs had the worst record in the NFL in offensive passing. Both Crennel and Pioli were fired at the end of the season with Pioli formally being fired January 4, 2013. Cassel was also unconditionally released. During Pioli's term, more than half the Chiefs back office personnel left the organization including club president Denny Thum who was team president and had been with the organization since 1974 DAMN IMPRESSIVE!!! Was not trying to bust your chops. Since you said Avery was most consistent in offseason, it got me curious and looked up the stats. Thought it was funny Avery and Hemingway had almost identical stat lines. |

On the other hand, he has done what some have been asking for...put enough focus on Baldwin to get his ass off the team. |
Cool. Why not? Both were most likely going to be cut anyway. It makes sense to possible help both players and both teams since they compliment each others style of play better. If it doesn't work oh well. Nothing ventured nothing gained. But if these guys don't show something in the next couple of weeks with their new teams they will most likely be out of the league.
