Remember, consoles are limited to certain countries. China is the bigger reason why pc software sales are so high. You do realize China just lifted a console ban after 14 years in their country. From that other article you linked: The report points out that China is the fastest-growing and largest market for PC games with nearly $7 billion of revenue. Not only does China have a rapidly-growing economy, the console market is non-existent there, giving rise to PC as the dominant platform. |

While I agree with the FPS comment I actually have better accuracy in FPS games on consoles than I do on pc. |
Honestly it comes down to this:
If PC received every big third party game that consoles do I would go PC and PC only. Can you imagine the modding capabilities in a game like WWE 2k? Unfortunately, it isn't going to happen. |
Quote:
I agree. If games like wwe2k Madden, The show came out on PC i wouldn't even own a console anymore. Modding is AMAZING. NBA 2k14 may not be like the ps4 game but mods make it better then the Ps3 and 360 verison. Better graphics custom scoreboards like you would see in a real NBA game. OUTSTANDING. That's the only thing I think Consoles have over PC there are some big name games that don't get released on PC. |
What is a good website thats cheap but good where i can do a custom pc and they will build it? Any recomendations?
|

I think Hometeam said he would do it for 100 bucks or so. |

I bet it's cheaper to buy all the parts and take it in to a local PC store. |

This guy posts a bunch of building a pc videos. He's been doing it for 20+ years and has people order parts and send them directly to him and then he ships the built pc out. http://www.youtube.com/user/CareyHolzman |
That may be an option. After 3 strokes my hands shake to bad

Hey PC guys, how many of you enjoyed Rome Total War?
I don't have RTW2 yet because it's not out for Mac but I recently picked up the Mac version of the original RTW because I was jonesing. I played it on Windows for a few years when it first came out and it plays even better on the Mac. Even though it was made in 2004/2005, I still find it to be one of the best games ever made for any platform. I've made a lot of modifications to make it harder/deeper but it's just a great game. |
They still release DLC for it constantly and feature it on steam. Cant get into those type of games though, so have not played it. Buck is your guy for Total War~

I've only played Empire and Shogun 2 (and Fall of the Samurai). Shogun 2 is amazing. I got it for $6.
I was gonna pick up Rome for $2 but I really don't want to play with outdated graphics when I can play Shogun 2 with decent graphics. |

Rome is a superior game in every way. The battlefield tactics are off the charts. |
Never played it. Me and my friend chose Shogun 2 to play together. I'll get Rome when I go home today.
|
I got shogun 2 when I originally built my current pc and bought my 670 (you know.. more powerful than current consoles~ since this is THAT thread.)
Put maybe 20 hours in but just couldn't get into it~ |
I should rephrase my comment because I may have given the impression it doesn't have outdated graphics - it absolutely does.
But they're good enough given what they're trying to accomplish. It's just a freaking great game, the strategy and tactics are unparalleled IMO. |
Damn, the game is back up to $10.

I talk up the Total War series all the time around these here parts, probably a top 5 franchise across all platforms for me. Just doesn't get much better than Total War. Out of the box AI issues keep these games from being perfect in my book. Creative Assembly went a little too simple with the Shogun 2 game, it was the polar opposite of Medieval 2, which went freaking nuts with empire management. Rome 2 strikes an amazing balance in that regard, IMO. Stylistically, it's also almost as amazing as Shogun 2, which had the best art direction of all TW games, IMO. Anyway, if you're a TW fan, you owe it to yourself to play Rome 2. |

In the meantime, I've been modding the hell of RTW. Fun. |

You simply need to put in a little more time, but the "pay" items just net you on the low end ancillary/décor things such as cockpit items/paint or, on the high end, mechs that give you a bonus to in-game credit. (Meaning you don't have to play as much to net credit, but that's it.) And most "paid for" Hero Mechs don't have any load out advantages - usually they are the worst of the bunch in terms of configurations/load outs. There are no specific advantages in the game from purchasing items as it relates to performance. You just get stuff (mechs) sooner (they all will be released as purchasable with in-game netted credits). |
Quote:
I finally finished modding it to my liking and I'm actually getting a challenge out of the CPU without enabling the AI cheats. This game probably has my vote for best video game ever. |
Outlast is cheap on steam and I hear good things. Anyone played it?

I sure wish I was missing out on great first/third party games. You really can't compare PC and ps4/Xbone. You need to compare PC with an indie friendly machine, the Wii U for example.
That's a far more accurate comparison. |

Hometeam I plan on giving my old pc to my brother since he is leaving for school. How much would you charge to put one together for me?

I wanted to build myself a gaming rig this year, but i can't stomach the cost of spending that much money on myself for what's ultimately just a toy. So my project has turned into, "Best rig for the Buck".
Tell me what you guys think for the cost: Core i5-2400 (with a generic IBM MoBO) Radeon HD7770 320 GB HD DVDRW Optical Drive Thermaltake Urban T31 Mid Tower 8GB DDR3 Ram 1600 Corseair 430Watt PSU Windows 7 64bit 22" LG L.E.D 1080P Monitor. LG E2250V Total cost for everything above: Under $550. What do you guys think? |
Is $550 your max budget?
If I were building a best bang for the buck build for myself right now that included a monitor and OS I would build... PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor ($149.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: MSI 970A-G46 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($69.99 @ Microcenter) Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($74.99 @ Newegg) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.98 @ OutletPC) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card ($169.99 @ Newegg) Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($29.99 @ Microcenter) Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX750B BRONZE 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ NCIX US) Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ Newegg) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($84.98 @ OutletPC) Monitor: Acer G246HLAbd 60Hz 24.0" Monitor ($129.99 @ Newegg) Total: $844.88 (Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.) (Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-02-13 16:24 EST-0500) Could probably shave off $50 or so but I picked the 750w PSU specifically for the reason that I picked a 16/8x board and would add another 660 down the road. |
Quote:
|
Actually... I take that back.
That motherboard has been flooded with dogshit reviews when paired with an 8 core CPU. I'd spend a little more and get a proper SLI board like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc..._-na-_-na-_-na or http://us.ncix.com/products/?usaffil...e&promoid=1084 |
Where are you getting your parts from?
Swapping your monitor out for the one I picked, which is cheaper, and the i5 2400 with a FX6300, which is also cheaper... and better, I still can't get your build under $550. I'm right at $550 without picking memory or a motherboard and that's about $150 if I'm picking the cheapest available. |
Just had my gaming rig built.

Im getting them from all over the place. I found a Refurbished business class IBM for $200 and im stripping the MoBo, I5, Disc Drive, HD w/ OS from it (fresh install). Picking up the Case, PSU, GPU and Ram from Fry's. Getting the monitor for $50 off a friend. |

The 7770 wont play the more intensive games maxed out, maybe medium settings, so it wont last very long for "future proofing." But if all you are doing is playing games like Diablo then you'll be fine. |

I had some parts from an old Dell that had burnt up. It was a Pentium 4 Prescott with HyperThreading. The GPU was dead and it had DDR memory. I had a PCIE GPU and some DDR2 so I needed a "hybrid" board that could handle both generations. Boys it's beginning to look like EA's deal with the NFL is no longer exclusive. Although EA will still make NFL games another dev will probably jump in. If it's NFL 2k pc players could get a football sim.

EA has reported massive quarterly losses. In the past EA has had no problem proclaiming their deals with the NFL were exclusive. When asked directly about the new agreement being exclusive CFO Peter Moore said nothing. EA will still make Madden games but I think their exclusive deal with the NFL is done. |

Please let it be true. give me a 2k PC football game.. ahhhhhhh

Hypothetically speaking, what if 2k does come back and there is no PC port? That would just be awful for the pc homers. |
PC expected a next gen GTA release by the end of the year.
|

Furthermore, the original decision to go exclusive was about CONTROL, not about money. The NFL wants more money and EA doesn't have it. They'll eventually settle. |
