It isn't about the zombies.

:harumph:

I have said it before and I will say it again, FMB has my utmost respect when it comes to his opinion. More times than not, I believe I am wrong and he is right. But with season 2, I just cant jump on board that it was character development and not a lurching mess of a season.

I'd like to thank the official walking dead Facebook page for spoiling the entire episode 20 minutes after it aired in the eastern/central timezone. I'm sure the mountain/Pacific and all other timezones appreciated it as well.

Me either....i usually avoid twitter to avoid people spoiling it. As of 45 min ago they apologized for it via Facebook saying they jumped the gun and it won't happen again. Atleast they owned it.

I had no doubt they'd apologize. They probably lost a ton of followers on FB. I unfollowed their posts because of it.

I did as well....as I left the chiefs game I opened the app and that damn image was the first thing I saw. Tried to warn the wife at home not to look but it was too late. Huge mistake... I avoid this thread and twitter exclusively cause of spoilers. Its one thing to have post with more info but a dam image? Really?!

Exactly. I didn't come into this thread for a week because I was an episode behind.

It's a little more of a nightmare with a show like TWD, because it's immediately followed by TD which is a live show with live social media participation. And Hardwick hosts, so I assume it's recorded on the west coast.

IE the weeks and weeks of the governor war that was coming (for nobody to be shot and the assualt to just run away), and then this years episodes are mostly just filler.

I'm sure the LOST fanbois are loving it, but the show has really lost it's luster.

GoT is exactly what TWD isn't on this front. Lots of people die, but they die because events have set their fate. People die on TWD because they're pretty and its a season finale.

Doesn't everyone die because events have set their fate? I mean, the fatass that eats five buckets of extra crispy a day... Event: Fried Chicken - Fate: Heart Attack

Event: Being a gay dude that does magic shows with a tiger in Vegas.
Fate: Tiger eats gay guy.

No you're right, Ned dying because he tried to be an honorable man in a situation that screamed for dishonor is as lazily written as Beth dying because she had to try to kill someone who had a gun that she would never see again with a pair of scissors.

His point is that Ned's death has thematic significance. Beth's death is the television series equivalent of click bait.

Oh ok. So if I got this right, we're comparing two shows that have nothing in common. Ones about dragons and kings and trolls and governmental bodies etc. The other is about the zombie apocalypse and cannibals and mean people.

Kinda like comparing The Jeffersons to NYPD Blue. It's apples and oranges.

One is a tale of a chemistry teacher who turns to drug dealing to provide for his family, another is a 'documentary' about a fat redneck toddler and the pedophiles her mom dates.

They're both on TV, I guess they're both equally good.

If I got this right, the only reason the two are being compared is because I remarked on shitty writing and someone warned me that if I couldn't handle characters dying, I should stay away from GoT.

You really really REALLY need to watch it from the beginning to the present without spoiling yourself in the interim. It's a great show, but not one you just dip your toe into from time to time. Basically it's all one gigantic saga that builds on itself as it goes along. Not every episode is mandatory watching, but skipping entire seasons or starting up with the present episodes is not advised.

I could. not. agree more with this statement.

Baby Lee 12-02-2014 11:23 AM

I would add, don't be daunted by all the episodes to catch up on. It's gonna be a while before there are new episodes, or even hype to be spoiled by.
And it won't be a slog. It won't be homework.
If anything you'll have difficulty stopping once you start watching.

Someone else (not you?) told BL he shouldn't watch GoT because he didn't like the meaningless death of Beth. He just refuted it by saying the death of Beth is nothing like the supposedly "meaningless" deaths on GoT.

I'm cutting Gonzo some slack at this point. He later revealed he hasn't seen GoT. So he was comparing the two in the abstract. Much more understandable reaction given that information.

I'd submit its also one of the most rewatchable shows as well. You catch a lot armed with foreknowledge. But that's different from watching for the first time knowing what's coming due to spoilers.

Basically.

In walking dead a lot of main characters die, just like GoT. Both are top shows.
Everyone knew a death was coming, it is an apocalyptic tv series. People are going to die tons of ways. Not all of them herioc or meaningfully.

Would a cut on her finger and dying of infection been a better death?
Her death and how it happened reminded people that shit is ****ed up and makes nothing makes sense in their lives. It reminded them of it. Reminded the viewers also it seems.

The only thing I am shocked of was there was no big shoot out and more deaths..

Also per Baby Lee's suggestion, you might want to watch season 1 twice. It takes a lot of watching to understand the characters and houses.

Yeah, I wish I could recall where I saw it, but there was a video recap that laid out rapid fire style what looked to be a whole season of plot developments.

And the tag line was 'and that was just the first episode.' And you're like 'holy shit, that was just the first episode!!'

What I have noticed the most about the Walking Dead is people who watch it are passionate. Both sides of the coin. Someone calls it brilliant, another will come in and say it is dogshit and they go back and forth. It is not just your typical internet chatter. We are talking like "your opinion is offensive to me" type responses. It is pretty interesting to read.

I think it is good, not great. I just wish Breaking Bad or The Wire got this kind of attention.

You should have, or be able to have, a password for HBO GO with your satellite subscription. If you haven't received anything from HBO yet, go to HBO.com and enter your info.

PC, BlueRay with WiFi, XBox, Chromecast, Roku. Web browser viewing is probably easiest, but there are tons of ways to port it over to the TV. If nothing else, download and burn to DVD at the most clunky/primitive.

Why wouldn't they use the characters from season one that split off from the main group? The Hispanic guy and his wife...
I've always wondered what happened. I liked him in the first couple episodes.
