That’s not how this works.

Tardif was a below average starter last year being paid live a good starter.

Easy cut.

LDT
$5 million in cap savings
$4 million in dead money

Reiter would be a better cut candidate as he has minimal dead money ($333,000) and Chiefs would create $3.425 million in cap space...

I wonder if they can bring Wis back?

BossChief 03-18-2020 11:23 AM

Kinda surprised we didn’t give Kemp a RFA offer. That knee must be pretty bad. I bet we sign him when he gets healthy.

Now it’s time to get something for LDT and Watkins.

Hoover 03-18-2020 11:25 AM

While not exciting, I like the approach the Chiefs are taking. Take the time to work on deal with Jones and Watkins, don't put undo pressure to get those two done.

The market may help. For one, I feel like Jone's number (worth) is now known regardless if we are looking to trade or sign him. With Sammy, he has to be motivated to work something out since there have already been big WR trades and the draft is loaded with talented guy.

The wait and see approach might also allow the Chiefs a better shot at keeping a guy like Breeland, which would be awesome IMO. For reasons that I simply do not understand, his market must be kinda cool. Which is good for the Chiefs.

I'd be ecstatic if we some how returned Pennel, Watkins, Jones, and Breeland.

I think you just gotta look at pure savings in this case. Being tight against the cap.

Reiter was actually a little better than LDT last year I think. Definitely $1.5M better (the difference in savings).

I’d move from LDT.

It’s also Interesting that Veach only converted 5m of Clark’s salary to a bonus when he could have converted 12.5

The team may also look at it that he was still possibly recovering from injury last year and he might play better fully healed. If they can’t trade him, they might want to just keep him rather than saving the 5m.

He may not have wanted to spread out 12.5 over the remainder of the contract though. I would say it was about keeping dead money down in future years.

BossChief 03-18-2020 11:39 AM

I’d cut him, too...but it doesn’t seem like Veach is too worried about the guys that make sense to keep/sign. Haven’t heard a peep about any of

Chris Harris jr
Pennell
Wisnewski

My hope is that cap space is going to open up with extensions/trades and that $ will go to that list.

A decision on Watkins has to be happening soon.

He either extends, or is likely released. Sammy might want to think twice about testing the FA market given the depth of the draft. Jerry Jones screwed the market up with that Cooper contract, but I don't think other GM's are that silly.

I doubt there is a trade market for him.

Easier to slow play the RPO game for the linebackers if they can trust the defensive line to hold the LOS. Make no mistake, it helps.

Being able to more easily make teams one dimensional by stopping the run is little?

They’ve been getting pushed around between the tackles for years now, especially when Mebane hasn’t been available.

Chargers can make whatever moves they want on defense. Without a legitimate upper third QB, they aren’t a contender. Maybe a wildcard, but not much more than that.

If anything, they’ll just waste good careers on their team while they move from journeyman to journeyman at QB. We know that one all too well.

I’m fine man lol

I’ve already explained that Denver is replacing Harris with Casey, but most of you probably don’t even realize he’s probably the better player today. You just see Casey’s name and assume they upgraded and that’s simply untrue.

The Chargers definitely upgraded at NT. Not saying they didn’t. Just that it isn’t going to have a huge impact against Mahomes. They need Tillery to take a big step forward if they want to do that.

Chargers can make whatever moves they want on defense. Without a legitimate upper third QB, they aren’t a contender. Maybe a wildcard, but not much more than that.

If anything, they’ll just waste good careers on their team while they move from journeyman to journeyman at QB. We know that one all too well.

They will try to get a QB in the draft and develop him. If they miss out this year, I expect them to tank hard for Goldilocks to make LA interested in that team.

MahomesMagic 03-18-2020 12:13 PM

Trubisky available? I think we should grab him for a 4th or 5th round pick and then see if we can resell him next year for a 1st round pick.

Reid can make him look better than Nagy.

Their defense is going to be too good to get the #1 overall pick. Like so good they might be 2nd in the AFCW with Taylor at QB.

Which might be the worst possible place to be.

Not good enough to contend.

Not shitty enough to get the guy that makes you good enough to contend.

We don’t have the draft capital right now to make those types of moves

This division isn’t going to be a gimme this year.

Lots of moves to be made between now and camp, but the division is getting better (the level of improvement is debatable) but KC at this point in time hasn’t improved and has probably taken a small step back.

Not much cap space currently and only 5 draft picks to work with.

Going to be interesting to see where we are in may

Well, moving forward we need to maximize picks and draft capital. This is an investment in a low round this year to make it higher next year.

Next year we will be competing for the prize too.

BossChief 03-18-2020 12:23 PM

We aren’t going to be trading picks for anyone

RealSNR 03-18-2020 12:31 PM

I'd look for the Chiefs to invest 2021 picks to move up/acquire 2020 picks on draft day.

We're going to be swimming in comp picks next year, even if they're only mediocre ones.

Setsuna 03-18-2020 12:32 PM

1. I don't think so.
2. Hard to move or acquire 2020 picks with future picks.

I can see them trading out of 32 to get more picks, but that's it.

ForeverIowan 03-18-2020 12:37 PM

Seems a little too coincidental we haven't heard a damn thing from the Chiefs or a damn thing in regards to Chris Harris Jr.. If we arent able to restructure Sammy I've got to think we are after CHJ.

Raiders signing CB Eli Apple.

He’ll get toasted by Mahomes a few times.
