Are the players underperforming? Is the scheme not suited for their strengths? Is the coaching bad?

We have a very highly thought of and paid LG, the highest paid center, a RG that is well thought of and a RT that was well thought of before he got here. That is a lot more than so many QBs are working with on the OL.

Then comes this question..when Mahomes hits the top of his drop and doesn't fire, is that because the receivers are a problem and aren't getting open in time..or is Mahomes averse to throwing to guys without clear separation.

These problems are honestly probably all amplifying the other...and don't even get me started on the WR snap counts.

I think that's the correct answer. Smith gets beat too often as a "good" interior OL. Our LT gets beat too often, period. Our receivers probably aren't getting open as quickly as Rice and Brown would have. It's all of those factors that are likely leading to Pat holding the ball a few tenths of a second longer than he should.

Did you complain when we signed Taylor because you were still pining for Wylie?

Lots of decisions can look better after the fact. The issue at hand is the process the front office took. We didn't have a LT or a RT and they pivoted by signing the highest-rated FA tackle out there. Unless you have some receipts where you claimed it was a terrible idea at the time because Wylie was super competent, I don't understand why it needs to be re-litigated.

Plenty of decisions the organization has made have worked out; plenty of decisions haven't. We judge this team based on Super Bowls, not on an after-the-fact basis of micro-decisions.

And "Jacksonville didn't like Taylor enough..." blah blah. Is this some kind of joke? Are we holding ourselves to the standard of the Jacksonville Jaguars?

Yep he was getting paid. Now that being said the rules and how they are enforced seem to have taken almost a whole step away from him. They make him stand closer to the line and he can not come close to anticipating the snap like he used to ... This has really hurt his game. Prior to us signing him the above was looked at like a positive. Also think that the rules on being closer to the line would have given Smith problems last year. IT has put a lot more pressure on the tackles of teams that like to leve them on an island,

Further he does seem almost a focal point of all of the crews.

He gets away with more bullshit than any other tackle in the league. It's so ****ing dumb that he can't line up correctly and start plays correctly. To the point we expect refs to allow him to do that shit and get mad the couple times they flag him for it.

Teams are now attacking the line just based on how he sets up. It puts us at a disadvantage before the play even starts.

Sorry but your first sentence just isn't true. Every game, every week, there's at least one tackle doing the exact same thing. It used to be a cheat code. Now it's a penalty. But lots of guys are still doing it.

Him and Lane Johnson are the ones who consistently do it. Other guys might do it and refs miss it but for him and Lane you can tell it's a strategic part of their game. It's not like that for others. Wanya is doing that. Wylie wasn't doing that. OBJ wasn't doing that. Fisher wasn't doing that. Humphries won't be doing that. It's Taylor constantly daring the refs to flag him on something

That's exactly what I said. My bad I called them pressures instead of 2 hurries. The way it's written out makes it seem worse than it is. That makes it seem like 7 plays that he gave up pressure, but it's just 4. It could be written out as 1 pressure, 2 hurries, and 1 sack. A sack is a pressure and a QB hit. Hurries are also pressures.

I said 3 pressures and 1 sack. That's completely correct. Also one of those pressures is iffy.

I wonder if the Chiefs were feeding Humphries team info before they even signed him.

That's remarkable they were able to get him ready this fast.

They had a very clear plan to go get him and executed it. Nobody the wiser for weeks, perhaps months. Makes you wonder about their other secret plans. :)

Also testament to the issues at LT and their faith in Morris.

Really don't hate Morris as the swing tackle but he can't start.

It’s just bullshit. Play to the ****ing rules and line up straight without trying to cheat a few inches when you know the TV crews and the refs have you under the magnifying glass constantly.

If you are too dumb to line up accurately as a group then you should not be a lavishly paid professional player.

Huh? 4 pressures in a game is still pretty ****ing rotten. The worst starting OTs in the league year to year are usually hovering in the high 50 range in terms of total pressures given up. 4 a game would put him at 68.

That says it all. Plugging in a new to the team LT that's coming off an ACL tear in December flies in the face of everything we've seen Andy Reid do in the past. The fact he's even willing to entertain this is crazy.

Exactly.

A guy like the Colts' Bernhard Raimann has given up like 5 pressures on the season and 1 sack in 205 opportunities. I was looking at him yesterday because I drafted him in our little alternate reality bit.

4 pressures + a sack in one game is a pretty bad game.

Morris isn't a T, or atleast a starting tackle. He's a swing guy. Which is fine, but you just can't roll with that.

Yeah he's shown enough that he should be a solid swing tackle in the future in case of injury. Just not a starter.

One of four of those pressures is borderline and probably shouldn't be considered one at all. He had one pressure against the Bills. The last 2 games that's 4-5 pressures on 75 pass attempts. That's a 5.3% to 6.7% pressure rate.

Acting like replacing Morris is gonna make any difference when the right side gets ****ing destroyed is hilarious.

I think Morris is a guard. He's a powerful run blocker who struggles holding the edge against speed rushers. He might be a good replacement for Trey Smith.

Probably so.

Depending how Humphries looks and the draft board falls, won't shock me at all if next year it's:

LT - Humphries or another big investment

RG - Morris

Swing T - Kingsley

I'd wonder if they kept Morris as the swing. Kingsley was so bad it feels like they'd need a position switch. I don't see how they can give him meaningful snaps to develop and take that chance. No idea how he'd look at RG, I suppose the argument would be he couldn't start there either

If you want to absolve Morris of his suckage because Smith and Taylor have had a bad set of games recently go right ahead. Still won't change the fact that Wanya Morris is a liability on the field and Reid apparently thinks so little of him he's willing to plug and play a replacement mid December. Oh, and only even got the starting job because the rookie he lost it to just sucked even worse.

Agreed.

His literal cousin Pennei Sewell was horrible as a rookie and was a consensus top 5 pick. Some suggested his future was at RG.

He was just raw and needed time. Way too early to know on Suamataia.

Nate Taylor.

I think he said that's their plan, yes.

But a lot can go wrong between now and then.

I think he'll start against LAC as well, but we can't overlook the fact that he's not in football shape and doesn't know this offense for shit. There's quite a bit of unknown here.

We have no idea what he's been doing while he was in their plans for the last month. He could be way farther along than anyone knows.

He's right though, the fact that they're even entertaining this with Andy's history and the OL tells you all you need to know.

Chiefs have a great team, with the exceptions being the offensive tackles. Humphries needs to play asap.

I figure the Chiefs would rather wait until the Browns game to play him if they had their druthers, but can you REALLY ask him to play his first game back against Myles Garrett?
Yikes!

Nagy said the team wants Humphries “to play the way that he’s been playing his entire career” and that he knows it won’t be an immediate transition back to playing shape.

“With any player that comes off an injury or that comes to a new team on top of that, it’s going to take some time,” Nagy said, via Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. “And I think you want to make sure that you’re making the best judgment for not just the team but for the player too so they can excel. He’s excited to get in here and just kind of learn what we do and how we do things and be a part of it. . . . He’s experienced so he wants to be able to help out in any way possible, but there’ll be some time involved.”

He could have been running marathons while simultaneously adding nothing but raw muscle - that AIN'T football shape.

We know this. We see it year after year after year.

He hasn't been on an NFL team and therefore has not been participating in organized NFL practices, team sessions, etc...

He's not in football shape. He can't be. That's not exactly the end of the world but it DOES subject him to the possibility of annoying little tweaks and such. Because getting hit by a 260+ lb guy trying to blow his way past/through you is just something that nothing BUT playing football can prepare you for.

I think they'd like to get him on the field as soon as possible. More reps is more value.

But they aren't going to subject him to a torn pec or something if he's out there in practice and struggling to keep his top and bottom halves aligned through contact.

Injuries are often a result of a misstep created by iffy technique. They have to watch him actually do reps before they know when they can realistically expect him to play without risk of injury that would extend into the post-season.

Granted, he’s a giant and all, but could be similar for Wanya.

That Eagles line is just a beast right now.

Yeah, sure Matt.

If this dude isn’t starting against the Chargers, I’ll stop eating red meat.

RunKC 11-26-2024 05:33 PM

He’s 100% in shape in terms of agility and strength. He’s a vet he knows what’s needed to be ready physically.

They’ll likely push him in practice a bit like camp. To me it’s really is like camp. First day of pads and after a couple week these guys are ready to hit someone else.

Only worry is rust. Welcome back DJ…now go out there a block Mack/Bosa, Garrett, Hunter/Anderson, Watt and Bonitto.

Goddamn

He's basically a combination of Willie Roaf and Anthony Munoz.

People don't seem to realize that Nate Taylor is never reporting things that he has been told. He's always reporting what he THINKS will happen based on his opinion.

False. He has sources within Arrowhead.

Oh, and only even got the starting job because the rookie he lost it to just sucked even worse.

Absolve him? I said over the last 2 games he had at best a 5.3% pressure rate and at worse a 6.7% pressure rate. Humphries had a 5.3% pressure rate in 2023, so that means he's been good enough the last 2 games. Trey and Taylor have been way worse than Morris has been.

Trey gets lumped into this best interior in the NFL stuff and Taylor was very recently the highest paid RT in the game. Those 2 have been atrocious recently, but everyone wants to just say it's on Morris.

I'm done with this right now, but when/if Humphries takes over for Morris and we have the same exact issues as before, then I'm gonna start back up.

I wouldn't be shocked if Wanya AND Kingsley are your starters at both G spots in 2026. I think they could both easily transition to solid OGs.

Wayna has shown he could possibly be a great guard to run behind.
