going into next year, the Chiefs have $48M in cap space. They will need to sign rookies, extend Hill, replace Bailey and Ford.

Cutting Houston adds another $14M to that cap space. If I were running things, I would look to extend him, if I can, bringing his annual cap number down. But Andy Reid has shown time and again that he gets away from players early rather than late.

Still, Houston is NOT old.

Meh. Thinking on it a bit I doubt it gets done if it hasn't already. Seems like Seattle expects too much.

That's not crazy. Most teams would take that production and a 3rd over a random 2nd. If I'm a Seahawks fan, knowing we're rebuilding, I'd love a 2nd, but it's understandable management wants more.

If they turn down a 2nd and 3rd? That's definitely getting into crazy town. But has or will anyone offer that?

We are going to get comp picks for Dee Ford and Allen Bailey, as well. Neither of those guys should be signing an extension.

Seattle accepts a ton of risk of limited to no return every time they run ET out there. If he’s injured, they will have given up a key rebuilding piece in the potential trade opportunities. I’d guess they are ready to get a deal done sooner than later.

Can he even be extended right now?

They can agree to a contract in principle but he can't sign until after he's traded.

And of course, they can only negotiate in good faith if the Seahawks give permission. Otherwise, it is tampering.

Once word gets out of that, then I'll believe.

Well, you won't likely hear anything concrete until a trade is done either way. The Seahawks aren't going to leak that they gave permission in order to keep demand high for as long as possible.

Falcons out on Thomas according to Quinn.

[McClure] Dan Quinn said he's not looking into a starting caliber safety like Eric Reid or looking to trade for a starter like Earl Thomas. Confident in Kazee at FS. Richards, Ishmael at strong.

Less leverage for Seattle.

Maybe throw a 3rd rounder and a conditional 5th round next year if he manages to stay on the field.

it's happening

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Earl Thomas recently followed Kareem Hunt and Eric Berry on IG, followed Chiefs on Twitter and is in KC&#39;s airport [before a trade?] Via facebook.</p>&mdash; Jinx (@JinxAverage) <a href="https://twitter.com/JinxAverage/status/1044358990963109888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 24, 2018</a></blockquote>
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

we are going to have the best safety tandem in football

teams are going to have to go on 15 play drives and not make mistakes to keep up with our elite offense

this is a PERFECT combination

From the sounds of this he will most likely not get traded this season.
The Seahawks gave up a 2cd and change for Brown and they think Thomas is significantly better.
