A drafted LT at 31 would be financially a real big deal.

I'm not sure why people like this guy, the Eagles developed a bunch of lineman...this dude has done nothing but suck and get beat out by a rugby player.

Doesn't serve any purpose in the rollover era.

If you can backload, backload. It encourages guys to continue to play to their contract and gives you a better opportunity to get out of it for greater costs savings if they don't.

Once you frontload a deal, the money is paid and you have NOTHING to leverage over a player to ensure that he continues to put forth the necessary effort. And there's no cap benefit to it over any meaningful timeline.

Yup. Hell, even if they had to trade up, w/e.

Im liking this more and more.

And im starting to wonder if Thornhill and Hardman are still in the cards for a resign.

They could give him a huge guarantee and just put most of it in the early years so he either becomes a bargain or an easy cut.

The one that just got ranked near the bottom of the league.

OBJ is gone. The decision to not franchise him was the Chiefs saying they weren't paying top of market for him. He is going to get a big deal. Let's just accept that fact. There are too many bad teams with money in a below avg FA market. And honestly it may work out for the best. We get a 3rd round comp pick back for him and can move on early enough to patch the hole without a standoff in a tag situation.

I don't know. Maybe because they have a history of doing just that?

We won't get a comp pick if we sign FA's...

This probably should have been a new thread. Totally missed this because it got lumped into a megathread.

This is what I'm thinking.

THey need a DE too, but there's gonna be some guys available in FA.

Wisconsin_Chief 03-06-2023 03:38 PM

I'm honestly stoked about this. The Chiefs have too many good young players who need to be paid to be throwing $150 million at a LT who needs a chip block to help him out most of the time on passing downs.

We won games with Cam Erving at LT, we'll continue to win games with whoever they come up with now.

Mecca 03-06-2023 03:40 PM

Some of those good young players will be lost also...it's what happens. Especially when they're on a team that always wins, they turn to getting paid.

For example why would Juan Thornhill not go for the biggest deal he can get? He's got 2 rings already.

KSCHIEF 03-06-2023 03:40 PM

What about Donovan Smith. He's going to be cut by the Bucs from sources and he has been an above-average LT in 2020-2021. Played a lot of football, coming off a God-awful year... maybe a 1-year "prove-it" deal to rebuild some value then try to cash in for the last 2-3 years of your career type of offer to him?

The nice thing is the Chiefs have one of the most compelling cases to any offensive player. Come chase a ring with the best QB in the world while rebuilding market value for yourself.

What FA's are we going to sign?? I'd much rather play the game this year to get as many comp picks as possible. Our tackles will each get good deals to higher comp picks. We can sign early released players or wait until after signees don't affect comp picks. There's hardly anyone worth chasing this year IMO
