Glad we are passing on him staying. He wants a too much cash and we don't need 20 mil on the cap from another tag right now. We can get one in the draft or FA that can play just as good for less.

We had to chip guys with RB's a lot for him.

For sure should have paid $20mil/year just to have to ****ing chip on the left side a bunch.

For example why would Juan Thornhill not go for the biggest deal he can get? He's got 2 rings already.

Yes but you might be able to keep Creed & Trey by letting Orlando walk. That’s a pretty valuable young combo in the middle of the OL.

What about Donovan Smith. He's going to be cut by the Bucs from sources and he has been an above-average LT in 2020-2021. Played a lot of football, coming off a God-awful year... maybe a 1-year "prove-it" deal to rebuild some value then try to cash in for the last 2-3 years of your career type of offer to him?

The nice thing is the Chiefs have one of the most compelling cases to any offensive player. Come chase a ring with the best QB in the world while rebuilding market value for yourself.

The story though, is that Veach isn't in the market for any 1-year solutions at LT.

So a 'prove it' deal for Donovan Smith would see to be a non-starter. What's odd is that he only had a base salary of $15 millionish this year. There's really not a market for a guy who's been a dependable LT for half a decade at $15 million?

I can't claim to have seen him play much this year - was he really THAT bad? I recall him being a pretty sturdy pass blocker in the past. Would seem the Bucs could've gotten him traded for a 6th or 7th rounder.

Maybe the market is really that cold for OTs...

While Veach says he wants a long term solution and I think they will draft one, I'd have a hard to thinking Andy wants to put a rookie in at LT.

Let him walk if he won't accept a team friendly deal. Same with Clark.

Clark is gone.

Yeah it would make sense for the Bears to do this if they are not targeting a LT in the draft. They seem to be all in on Fields and going to trade down just a matter of how far and what position. They have to fix the line so if your not going to spend your first pick on a LT then you better go out and get one. So over pay by millions early and get his number realistic in 3 years ....

I agree but they do have Thuney next to him. It's nice to have a stud next to a youngster to help and show the ropes.

I think he sucked big balls this year according to reports but didn't watch much Bucs football either. I'm almost thinking something like this type of signing + an early pick is the best solution long-term. If the rookie is ready then great and if not at least we have a backup plan

Is this even a good year for OT's? I have not looked. I don't even know any of these OL prospects names.

I'd assume they'd like to end up with one of Carter, Anderson or Wilson.

Doubt you can plan on getting a sure fire starting LT with the 31st pick.

For the record, none of this means they are passing on him staying. It just means they didn't want to tie up 20m in cap space with the tag.

Not many of them are LT's though, especially not year 1.
