Probably not this year.

The fact that he looked as bad as he did last week after sitting all this time since the Cincy fiasco shows that he is mentally broken.

But it seems like Veach is hellbent on keeping this IOL together for a little longer and I really don’t blame him.

Unless there's a LT like Trent Williams coming available, and there isn't, keeping the interior together isn't a bad idea at all. Keeps that floor relatively high until you finally hit on one somewhere in the draft.

Definitely agree that’s the best option, I just meant if they’re intent on not adding anyone else to the roster. Like you said, I don’t see what they’re waiting for, so they clearly are just hoping a switch will flip for one or both of these guys. Wanya has been about as good as anyone could have expected, but you are spot on and he’s most assuredly going to get dinged up again.

Man, so tired of these conversations. I hope Veach just goes balls deep next year and does whatever it takes to solve this issue.

A left side of Thuney and Caliendo might actually be our best possible option on paper. I honestly can’t believe I’m saying that because I’ve never been on the Thuney to LT train, but short term it’s really looking better by the day. I really don’t believe our future LT is on this roster, so just put the absolute best 5 you can find out there.

I hate that we’re even having to discuss this, but if Pat gets killed one of these games we’re going to regret not giving it a shot. I find it very hard to believe Thuney wouldn’t be the best LT on our roster at this point.

Problem is I just don’t trust Caliendo.

I know it’s only preseason, but from what I’ve seen of him I think he’s a big downgrade from Thuney, and I’m not sure the “upgrade” at LT will be enough to make it worth it unless we’re forced into that lineup

Hunt is back on the roster, Tyson is fighting tonight, so stranger things have happened!

I don't think Caliendo is any Allegretti tbh.

It's wild that Taylor moving to LT is such a nonstarter it seems. But I guess if he can't consistently line up on his own side of the field, switching him to LT would open up another can of worms?

I don't get it. As much as the argument is that there are just as many good pass rushers on that side as there are on the other side these days, I'd still MUCH MUCH MUCH rather have Mahomes blindside be the side that he doesn't have to worry about.

As in he's significantly worse? obviously there would be some drop-off there, but I can't remember how he played in the preseason.

WTF did Andy Heck do to have Suamataia regress this horribly? He must've converted him to Scientology, ****in Xenu and E-Meters.

I think it’s pretty clear the Chiefs have completely moved on from that idea ever being an option, considering Reid just said they’d move Thuney to LT in an emergency. They must not like what they’ve seen from him in that spot in the limited reps they’ve tried, and as you said, this would just draw more attention to his already inflated penalty issues.

Ugh, blah! Why can’t we just have a goddamn LT for the best QB ever to walk the face of the planet??? I truly believe 80% of the issues we’re seeing with Pat would be instantly gone with even a top 20 LT.

That's what I don't get. He was actually pretty ****ing good against the Ravens. One pressure allowed. Total. Granted, the Ravens have more of a quantity over quality type of thing going on at EDGE, but you'd figure a guy like Oweh would've skull ****ed him given his weakness to speed.

Yeah it's like Trey Hendrickson just broke him completely.

Ravens are 4th in the league in sacks. 31 total. 20 have come from their rotating EDGE group. Just don't get it.

I understand you don't need to be a chess champion to be a successful offensive lineman (but it doesn't hurt, does it, Thuney?).

But stepping back, and listening to interviews, I just don't think the guy is very bright. That's not to say he can't be a phenomenal athlete. In this case, however, I wonder if he's having trouble with the learning curve, and the application of what he's learning from week to week.

Things like remembering assignments, remembering the techniques of the guys he's facing, etc... that requires some level of intelligence and learning ability.

If he had months to prep for our first/second games, but then started to stall as that timeline shrunk between the following weeks... I wonder if that's the "why."

Perhaps that is something that can course correct as he grows. Right now everything is new. The fundamentals that stay the same will become ingrained, and will allow him to focus on the intake of new info.

I'm totally speculating, but I wonder if the game is just too big for him right now given his limited capacity to learn, retain, and apply the volume of new information in a short window of time each week.
