I just chalked it up to this draft class not setting the world on fire. It's the same reason I couldn't accept the trade that we almost had earlier, there are still too many good vets to get crazy trying to get rookie picks.
|
I believe there's still great value in the vet draft so I like your moves.
If you find out you actually do need a # of rookies, which I don't expect, you could always package your last few picks in the vet draft to trade back into the rookie draft |
Yeah, those were essentially my thoughts as well... there are a number of rookies I'd like to get, but the veteran talent out there now and what should still be available in a few rounds is pretty nice. We'll see if my Ditka-like move in trading away the rookie class works out.
Plus, Rainman is going to have a ton of fun managing these trades. Ha! |

I am interested in obtaining first round picks in the rookie draft if anyone wants to do anything...
|
Anyone need any Rookie picks in the first 3 rounds? I have a 2nd rounder and 2 3rd round picks as of right now.

Seriously though.....I'd love to trade some of my rookie draft picks away if someone wants them. I'm looking to get into the range of 9-14 in the veteran draft.

Ok now that I just woke back up I will comment on his trade with me
From an outside observer mile got the better deal Trent Edwards is a capable starting qb and squeezing out my 10th and 18th is a great job Receiving only cassel and eleventh looks bad However if cassel is as good or better than some think and becomes an elite QB this deal is brillant it's a major gamble but it's a boom or bust type trade. Now why I made it while I'm scared a lot of the players I am targeting will be gone in RD 11 This gives me 3 picks in Rd 11 12,14-33 with a pick every round and 2 in 13th I have a feeling some great value will be available then |
Now why cassel over Edwards?
This was tough but because he's our qb now I started doing research on the guy. I asked my friends who are pats fans what they thought and I watched all three NFL network games and came to some conclusions about our new qb. From my pats fan friends while the patriots had great receiving talent around him their running backs were all hurt meaning they had to throw it meaning the D could tee off on him. With that going on he still delievered. The I line also wasn't fully healthy so he didn't get great protection but kept getting right back up and stood in the pocket with a blitz coming toward him. He didn't go into the fetal position, see Huard, or go on IR, see Croyle. Now what I saw, I kept saying what if we got Scott Mitchell 2? So I watched the NFL network games. I saw a leader on the sidelines rallying the O. I saw a jet team score and cassel lead the team down the field for a leading score cool as joe cool himself. I love thigpen but I saw cassel make some throws. That he couldn't make on his best day. Have I drank the coolaid maybe but what if I'm right?? |
Jeepers, I've got some catching up to do on the trades. Maybe tonight.

You very well could walk away with a hell of a QB.
I was initially annoyed that (a) the team I took over had selected him as a QB and (b) he was selected in the freaking first round. I don't hate the guy by any means, and realizing that Bowe is a great young WR with a strong future... there is no Moss/Welker combo on this team right now. Gonzo is gone and LJ is part crazy. So, I rolled the dice on another young and unproven QB with a ton of weapons on offense. Edwards hasn't proven anything yet, but you have to like the weapons and at least for one year, TO will likely be just a minor distraction. TO / Evans / Lynch - I dig that offense and like Edwards' upside. I wasn't going to take a rookie QB, so with one of the next 6 selections, I can grab another QB. I liked getting back into R10 (twice actually) and getting that extra R18 pick. All in all - you have more upside if Matt rocks ... I think I'm about even on the deal right now, depending on who falls to me... but I didn't run away with this one in regards to trade value by any means. Pretty equitable to me. |
