That 4th down conversion was another good example.

If you'll recall, there wasn't really a hole there, but he kinda rolled into the contact at the LOS, spun off the pile and got his legs under himself to drive forward for the needed yard.

Pacheco just doesn't do that. He'd have put both arms around the ball, ducked his head and slammed into that pile then churned his legs in the hopes of moving 1500 lbs of human being forward. And it probably wouldn't have worked.

Hunt is just a MUCH better 'technical' RB. He just does all the small stuff right.

Pop would have just violently ran into the back of people and hope the pile moved.

I have no problem with POP next year. He's under contract. But in a draft that's loaded with talented running backs you would be smart to grab one. I have no interest in adding a high mileage veteran back. We need youth at the position.

I'm so glad that Clark forgave him.

Yeah, Hunt has earned and deserves more playing time.

Wisconsin_Chief 01-20-2025 10:20 AM

Hunt should be getting 75% of the snaps against Buffalo. If he isn't, I don't know what we're doing at this point. Perine should get 3rd downs and Pacheco will have to just settle for spot duty.

I love Pacheco to death and he has a role on this team next year, but he's simply not a starting RB in this league. He just doesn't have the vision and they never use him in the passing game, so clearly he's still not comfortable there. He's just never going to be what his athletic ability indicates he should be. Definitely need to nab a RBOTF in the draft, and I wouldn't mind taking one higher than some people would like. I hope they bring Hunt back for another season, too.

From my pea-brain perspective, this is insane. There's obviously a LB waiting to close up that hole the moment Hunt steps through, but to find space between Thuney and Kelce? What the ever loving **** is that?

We'll spend a third or fourth at the worst on RB because if you're not trying to improve, you're losing

What about Devin Neal ? Dad says he's just like kareem hunt. Probably could be gotten into third round unless he just blows up at the combine

That's 'vision'.

He sees that Thuney didn't get the reach block. So most RBs (and definitely Pacheco) slam into that B gap where Thuney is clearly losing and the DL is going to step right into it as he gets there.

Hunt is a step ahead, sees the block has failed and does that slide to get around Thuney and allow him to re-set and stay between the DL and the ballcarrier. And he sees he has Kelce square on the seal block on the edge so he knows that ones probably safe.

It's less that he saw the hole -- he flat out created it by changing his gap after noticing that Thuney was losing over his inside shoulder so he used that DL's 'win' against him, moved to Thuney's outside shoulder and exploded through the hole.

It's just vision. He made that run.

Oh, and credit to Caliendo there. I don't know how the Chiefs do it, but that's a standard sort of 'identify the Mike' move where Caliendo knew exactly who to get to on the 2nd level, passed his man and got up there to take care of that other OLB and create the lane.

The critical blockers on that run were Kelce and Caliendo.

I appreciate what Pacheco has done as a Chiefs and Hunt coming in this year as well but watching offenses around the league I think it's pretty clear we need to upgrade RB going into next year. We need more speed and a threat to take it to the house on any given play. Imagine this team with Barkley or a similar player.

Pipe dream. Won't happen unless we draft a stud RB

I agreed that we need to upgrade that running back but I'm saying we won't sign one and free agency we will draft one in the long run they'll probably be as they've been doing mid to late round the passing game is the focal point of the offense but yes it'd be nice to have an early prime hunt or Charles

On another rewatch, I'm not sure if Thuney "lost" this rep, Kelce kinda shoved Thuney's man into the B-Gap, killing it as a potential option. No idea if that's accidental or by design, but to react to that and assume that the C-Gap is the better option in that split second is still insane to me.

Signing Kareem was the best move Veach made this year easily.

This whole idea that RBs don't matter was stupid to begin with. The Chiefs absolutely need to draft an impact runner this year, no question about it.
