Whew, survive and advance. UNC never should have never let Villanova back in the game, and Kansas should have separated from WKU in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half when WKU had only hit like 2 FGs in the half.

Kansas should play loose Sunday, and hopefully McLemore can find his game. If Kansas wins, hopefully Michigan will, too, or Self comes up with some magical gameplan... because VCU is scary, and those 74 turnovers tonight didn't change my mind.

They didn't overlook WKU, they are just really undisciplined and are weak on offense.

Yes they are. But thats all they are. They are good, but nothing special. They have three guys who can score in macadoo, Bullock, and Hairston, and thats it.

If hairston gets hot he could take over the game.......I have no idea how they are going to stop whithey though. We have NO one.....

They definitely lacked focus... WKU looked like Kansas on a couple of in bound plays in the first half, and they scored on a layup right after Kansas took the lead (IIRC) where all of Kansas' defenders might as well have gone to the locker room, because they sure as hell weren't anywhere near the paint. I think Self ripped them a new one at halftime, because even though WKU missed some easy shots in the 2nd, they weren't getting nearly as many of them.

Offensively... yeah, a team like VCU scares me. PG play is one thing, but throw in McLemore's turnovers, and they obviously need to get better at dealing with that kind of pressure. KU missed a lot of easy shots early, and I was pretty surprised they didn't put it away early in the 2nd half.

I think KU can handle Carolina just fine. Now you are right that Miami deserved a #1 seed over KU. Their supposed bad loss just knocked off Georgetown. Im sure Georgetown would have rather played KUs bad loss TCU.

Who knows, maybe UNC will be too arrogant/stubborn to think they need to adapt their schemes and we will roll them.

KU shoots 53.9% eFG (ranked 26), and limits opponents to 41.3% eFG (ranked 1). KU's 3 pt defense is ranked 25th, and its 2 pt defense is ranked 1st. Michigan shoots 54.6% eFG (ranked 13), and limits opponents to . . . well, doesn't limit them much -- 47.9 (ranked 143). Michigan's 3 pt eFG is ranked 30th and their 2 pt eFG is ranked 10. KU defends both better than that.

It's not a bad matchup at all. It basically comes down to Michigan being a jump shooting team with no inside presence at all that doesn't rebound or go to the line. They don't turn people over (good news for EJ and Tharpe) and they will have NO ONE to stop Withey. So as much as he may be a "non-factor" on defense, he would most definitely NOT be a "non-factor" on offense.

This doesn't matter right now, though. Both teams still have to win the games in front of them.

Well, that completely sucked. Talk about playing down to your competition. I don't think KU had any focus or energy in that entire game apart from maybe the few minutes it took them to build their 5-6 point lead. Complacency clearly remains a problem for this team. Fortunately, there shouldn't be any more room to be complacent in this tournament (at least you would hope). UNC is a dangerous team and should be perceived as a threat by us. With their quick pace, it should also be more entertaining than the exasperating shitshow we had to watch tonight.

We also saw the benefit of being a 1 seed tonight (as opposed to a #2). We were able to suck that badly and still win because we were playing a completely hapless opponent. If we were playing FGCU instead of WKU tonight, the outcome would have likely been completely different. Heck, if WKU even just made a couple more threes, they're right there.

Miami lost to an awful Wake Forest team on the road and a bad Georgia Tech team at home like two weeks before the tournament started. They deserve nothing.

Basically, they shoot a pretty similar percentage from out there, but ISU's entire offense revolves around the three ball. UNC's doesn't. They create a lot of shots through their transition game.

How close was this game at the end? I saw the score ended up at 64-57 but was it even closer than that?

damn Self has won 30 games a season 6 out of the last 7 years. Including 4 years in a row dating up to now. I don't think any other program has done that in recent years. The last time they didnt was the season after they won the national title and all their starting/impact players left. Even then they still won the Big12 conf title and made the sweet16 - not bad.

Kansas fans are spoiled w/ their program. Self has turned KU from a national power to a national superpower. 9 straight league conf titles, that hasn't been done since ...i dunno UCLA in the 70's maybe...and in today's game where there is much MUCH more parity now? 2 Final Fours, a NC, winning 30 games in 6 of the last 7 years all while players leaving early for the NBA.....Self just re-loads man......****ing incredible if you sit down and think about what he's been able to accomplish.

And Mizzou chose Quin Snyder over Self. That is just ****ing hilarious, and MU is still looking for a good bball coach to this day.

Miami will be fine. They will get to Indiana and will have a 50/50 shot to win. KU will get to Florida and then loose. So it will work itself out in the end.

We did fine in the first Baylor game. Don't forget that at Baylor KU did not come out to win. No passion, no energy, on the road, you get blown out by a team that was supremely motivated for a number of reasons. I'm gmuch happier to be playing Michigan that VCU. I usually trust whatever Self can plan and prepare but we just don't have the ball handlers. If we are lucky enough to get to the title game and meet Louisville there...holy shit that will not be fun.

I would actually love to play Louisville. Siva is terrible and we would match their defensive intensity blow for blow.

Like I said, I wouldn't put it past Self to work some magic in that kind of a scenario, but based on what we've seen this year from KU in the ball handling department, and watching Louisville play at the moment, I think it would be a disaster for KU.

I think KU needs to attack the press. I've notice them and other teams just sit back and wait for it to come. Their problems aren't so much their ball handling as people think (yes it could be better but it's not atrocious) but just sitting back and letting the press dictate you. It would be a great match up. It would probably be the lowest scoring game in tournament history lol.

And again, Siva is a basket case. Our D would rattle the shit out of him.

Anybody notice how in the game Tyler self gets? Hes always bitching with the refs and standing and screaming with his dad. Kind of a cool small thing to see

Miami is as fine as any other team in this tournament, which is to say that they could lose at any time and it would surprise no one. My point, though, was they didn't deserve a #1 any more than Gonzaga, KU, or Indiana.
