Oh I agree with that, and BB deserves massive credit.

Keep in mind two things -- first that all coaches, but NFL coaches especially, tend to be very conservative and tend to do the things that, all else being equal, will get them the LEAST criticism if it fails. BB definitely doesn't fall into that category. Picking Brady to start the SB is one example. A less successful one is 4th and 2 against Indy -- A DECISION I SUPPORTED THEN AND SUPPORT NOW. Just because a decision doesn't succeed doesn't mean the wrong choice was made.

Second, BB got crucified in Cleveland for benching, whoever it was -- Kosar I guess. Now he's going against the grain and picking the new guy to start the Super Bowl over the former number 1 pick guy. That takes titanium testicles...

Exactly.

We here in KC know about the conservatism of the NFL first-hand.

Prior to this season I used to say this league is 80% QB, everything else is filler. And truly believed that.

Then we have the Sean Payton example.

Think I have to amend that to 80% QB & HC, Then everybody else.

If it was 80% QB then Philip Rivers would be doing better than he has, Peyton Manning would have more than one ring, Favre would've had more than one, Elway would've won before Terrell Davis, and Dan Marino sure as shit wouldn't have been shut out.

You can't win a SB without a very good quarterback, but you need alot more than a very good quarterback to win consistently in the NFL. Belichick is the ARCHITECT (not just the coach) of a team that wasn't under .500 for a full decade, and has gone to 5 Super Bowls (and an AFCC) in 10 years. The entire roster has turned over other than Brady, and still the Patriots have gone to Super Bowls...

My memory is a little shady. Why wouldn't he start Tom Brady in the SuperBowl?

I know NE was based almost solely on defense and timely 3rd down conversions, and Brady was just a guy that took care of the ball, but who else would he have started?

Agreed. That's why I have to change that to QB & HC. Not just QB.

And I just started believing that until the last couple years when rules changed and QBs started routinely passing for 4,000+ yards. So anything before that doesn't apply now to that belief I have. It's a completely different game.

For the worse I might add. Used to be you would win it all a variety of ways. ex: 200 ravens. Now? The only way I see it is to have a top 5 QB & a great HC.
