A state lawmaker is coming under fire for sending what he thought was a funny e-mail message to his colleagues.

Some people do not find it very amusing and want him to make a public apology.

Rep. Don Brown, R-DeFuniak Springs, sent a message from his state e-mail account that said, "Don't forget to pay your taxes - 12 million illegal aliens are depending on you!"

Brown said the message was intended to be humorous and to remind people about the upcoming tax deadline.

He apologized and said as far as he's concerned, he's done with the issue.

But members of the Florida Hispanic Legislative Caucus are taking exception to Brown's e-mail, calling it inappropriate and saying such e-mails have no place in the Florida House.

"That term, illegal alien, is extremely insulting to many individuals and I think there has to be something a little bit more public and a little bit more contrite in his apology," an unidentified member of the caucus said.

BTW Donger, don't give me that "put yourself in their shoes" stuff. My dad is an immigrant and I have MANY immigrant family and acquaintances. They ALL are here legally. The did it by having jobs/professions that were deemed useful by the immigration service and they applied and were admitted.

I will agree the illegals are not "evil" people. At the same time, you cannot have total open borders, or you will have overpopulation and it will end up breaking our social services.

If we lived in a world where there was no public education, public roads and hospitals required to maintain emergency rooms open to the public, fire and police services paid for by tax dollars, then perhaps open borders might not be detrimental. Instead, we live in a world where illegal aliens can demand these services.

We must keep control over how many people we allow here, and to ensure they are useful to our society.

I have a single, non violent, non sexual, non drug related felony over 10 years ago, yet I see ILLEGAL ALIENS getting work, any work, that I would be willing to do. Yes, Mr. Fax, every employer now has cheap or free access to criminal background checks. I am about to have to work at a McJob for $5.50 an hour, while some Crazy Puppy Fart can do construction work for $10 or $12 an hour. I would gladly take one of their jobs. They do not take jobs we dont want, thats just the propaganda.

I don't know what the entire country of Mexico conspired to get you found guilty of, but are you absolutely certain it's the fault of the ones who are here that you are in the situation in which you currently find yourself?

I have no desire to impress you. I take responsibility for my crime, so you can twist my words anyway you want. The point is, they are here ILLEGALY, and have better prospects for employment than a natural citizen who paid for his crimes.
