Don't they have to take the highest rated team in terms of the BCS? Pretty sure that's why Illinois is going in ahead of Michigan. Obviously the Rose Bowl would've taken Michigan over Illinois if that was a choice.

With the expectations that MU/KU had at the beginning of the season, all fans should be pretty pleased with whatever New Year's Day bowl we end up in.

No they don't have to take the highest rated team. They can choose any team from a major conference that has at least 9 wins and is in the top-14 BCS Rankings.
