either way it doesnt bother me. the only reason people would get mad about offhanded comments about there family would be because it was true.
truth hurts.

only thing that ive gotten really riled about is some snide rep comment i recieved in a Obit. thread when my cousins son died.

Good Point! An insult in a prayer request thread should be treated as needing disciplinary action. But in anything else ?????

The circumstances under which I'd extend that rule would be when a poster talks about a personal situation in another thread that doesn't happen to be a request for prayers. For example, PosterX comments in a thread about heart disease that his wife is a smoker who just had a heart attack and PosterY jumps in to say that she deserves what she got and hopefully she'll die before she drives up everyone's healthcare costs too much.

Err, forget I asked that question out loud.

Who is adopting all the 16 year old boys?
Someone should get on that.

This!

I voted no, because I don't think it's a big deal, but I think it could be added to bannable offenses (not offense's like the FAQ :doh!: ) if it was like "Excessive or direct insults against friends/family".... so there's some discretion involved with an indirect "your momma" and like the example below, you can't say "your wife Teresa is a whore".

Just for myself, I think if you're making a crack at somebody it's one thing, but if the intent behind a comment is actually hurtful, than I think that's the line you shouldn't be crossing.

Problem is, how do you define that line for everybody in general. I mean, how do you quantify banning based, essentially, on meanness?

Mod abuse? The Planet has some of the softest moderation you can find on the internet. You essentially have to beg to be banned here. D.C. is basically a cesspool where anything is allowed. Racial slurs, blatant trolling, it's all fine.

The whole point of having moderators is to have people make judgment calls on when it is necessary to ban people, lock/merge threads, etc.

You misread my post (or maybe I worded it poorly). I cherish the light moderation of ChiefsPlanet and don't want it to change. I'm not worried about mods abusing this rule. It's the junior mods with the bold usernames who can't be trusted.
