What I don't understand is why we would bring in two 4-3 defensive coaches and then switch to the 3-4. Clancy only ran the 3-4 when Whiz made him (he didn't use it under Denny Green), and Gibbs ran the 4-3 in NO. This doesn't make any sense to me.

doesn't seem that ridiculous of a contract. certainly not the mountain of cash that we've paid dorsey to become completely obsolete in our 'new defense.'

this is all for naught, though, because 1) this article is purely speculation, and 2) at worse, we'll go to a 4-3 3-4 hybrid defense (like the patriots--we'll run a base 4-3 with a 3-4 look, IMO)

see how that went? base speculation. and I didn't even get paid for it!

Another team that runs this hybrid is the Cardinals.... so there's another reason we would run it. Haley would know the ins and outs as an OC who practiced against it a lot.

Didn't Bill Maas move to a 3-4 DE later in his career? If he can play the position I'm pretty sure Dorsey can, too. Dorsey is a little bigger but they seem comparable in strength and quickness to me.

yep. wouldn't shock me in the least to have at least a 3-4 look to throw the qb off on occaison. as long as it works, they could use the penny defense as far as I'm concerned.

ChiefsCountry 02-18-2009 11:32 AM

I hate the 3-4 but whatever.

I agree. I think we have to run one year at least of the hybrid. We just have too many 4-3 players to not do it.

Did Haley or Pioli tell Shefter the Chiefs were going 3-4?

Who is Shefter's source?

So yes. The Pats DE's make a lot of coin. Thanks!

Are you high? No one is this much of a homer.

The talent on this roster is a ****ing joke. The sooner you come to grips with this, the happier you'll be as a fan.

The talent wasn't the problem as much as the inexperience and the lack of direction and identity.

I wouldn't be surprised if it weren't true. Not saying it isn't but...

KC reporters/bloggers are grasping at straws and if someone in the front office sneezes its news

let's see.... seymour isn't ONLY a DE in their system, so it's hard to pigeonhole him and say 'HE'S A DE AND HE MAKES A LOT OF MONEY'... he gets paid for his versatility (he's a badass). they gave warren a 7 million dollar signing bonus.

check me on this... dorsey got basically a 22 million dollar signing bonus. 50 million total. a few years ago, seymour signed a 4 year 30 million dollar contract, and with signing bonuses being what they were a few years ago, he likely got about ten million dollars. so--I'm not sure of the math, but...

10+7=17 million dollars in signing bonus money for TWO 3-4 DEs (TWO OF THE BEST 3-4 DEs IN THE GAME), but we just gave 22 million to a guy who never played 3-4 in his life, and doens't really seem to fit.

are you ****ing reeruned?

Exaggerate much?

Anyone with half a brain knew that Hali doesn't have a very good first step and wasn't suited for RDE. Anyone with a half a brain knew that Boone wasn't going to make a good LDE and that the addition of Dorsey wasn't going to offset the departure of Allen.

Are you going to include their rookie contracts as well? They were both high 1st rounders. I'm not saying Dorsey is worth what he makes, but I'm not sure any top 5 pick is coming straight out of college. The Pats invested money and 1st rounders on that position, so I wouldn't be surprised if we do that same.

I agree. I don't think Dorsey will fit well in the 3-4. The stuff about him being able to was from shitty sources. I didn't see anything like that from the major football sources, just some random blogs.
