I think Belichick franchised him to increase his exchange value and to create the impression that he's worth it.

Its NFL insurance, if your car (Brady) is damaged, you want your rental car(Cassell) to be there in order to get to work. Plus his original contract was up. They risked losing him for nothing.

FAX 02-21-2009 03:03 AM

Ah ... so you don't think they could have just re-rented the car, Mr. Arrowhead Magic? In other words, Cassel wouldn't have just re-signed with NE to a fair deal?

Nope. I think NE franchised him to elevate his perceived value throughout the league. After the way he performed last year, they saw an opportunity to acquire inordinate value for the guy and the tag was a way to increase that value. All of a sudden, other teams are thinking, "Brady was a seventh and now they've found another diamond in the rough, those bastards." And, amazingly, their cunning plan is working.

they are trying to re rent the car Mr Fax, but the re rented car might have some value if they sale it. They have a new car(3rd round pick last year) sitting in a garage. Maybe the oil is leaking? but they dont think their mechanics can get it running in time... now your sitting here .... with a damaged car ...... a car you like, but might get more money out of it if you sold it ..... and a leaky oil car. You try to sell your car to someone who will overpay for it, but if you dont get what you want to fix the other 2... you just keep the overpriced car and run it until you get the others fixed.

I had the chance to speak with one of my sources down here in Indianapolis. Here’s what he had to say:

- The Lions are currently seriously considering dealing for Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel. According to my source, New England is “actively looking to deal him.”

i woke up with a boner this morning, now i know why......

More draft picks and money down the drain for Detroit...One more option off the table to help focus FA and the draft for KC.

Chi
Car

I could also see a scenario where the Rams make a play, but I'd consider that a longer shot because they've got so much tied up in Bulger. Also, if it becomes public that Kansas City is making a play for him, that could open the floodgates. Other teams might figure that since Pioli knows him and made the play for him, Cassel's quite likely for real.....

Bite your tounge! With the absolute best case scenario for the Chiefs being the Lions getting Cassel with the #20 pick and whatever else it may take, no way in hell do I want to see these other teams getting involved in the dealings.

Nuthooks for even thinking along these lines!:cuss:

DO IT DETROIT! MAKE THIS DEAL! DO IT NOW! HURRY UP ALREADY!

It'd be nice if all the "the Chiefs should trade the #3 pick for Cassell" threads to go by-by

Okay big dog....

Now to answer your question...

Why do I think Cassell is SM v2.0? First reason is they did this once with SM v1.0, went out and signed the hot backup behind a HOF QB that was hurt and IMO alot of this is going down just like it did for SM v1.0 in 1993... Marino was hurt, SM v1.0 stepped in and did very well with that supporting cast which consisted of, Ingram, Saxon, Parmelee, McDuffee and others... Now granted it wasnt the All World cast that NE trotted out this year with a HOF WR, Probably a couple HOF OL, and a Slot WR that was out of this world...

Then add in ALL the media hype, true fandom and BOOM (Madden) you have SM v2.0...

Could Cassell lead a team like SM v1.0 did in Detroit to the playoffs in '95 and '97? Maybe... But I also remember SM v1.0 not playing well in alot of time in Detriot...

But I truly hope that Detriot takes SM v2.0 and leaves us the choice between Stafford and/or Sanchez. Over all this reminds me of Detriot and the 1993/1994 offseason...

Scott mitchel 2 didn't they learn from the last time they did this LOL

ChiefRon 02-21-2009 11:39 AM

Hopefully, this deal makes a lot of sense to them. I can see them rationalizing that they get a "proven" starter in Cassel instead of an "unknown" junior QB, get him for less than the #1 pick, and also get their LT.

C'mon, Detroit, what's not to like?
