I've never understood why the draft forum isn't on all the time. (stickied 24/7/365)

There should be a FF forum also. (in-season stickied)

ChiefGator 01-03-2012 11:30 AM

My vote would be to keep them seperate. They feel like very different topics to me. Once is mainstream, albiet very focused, football discussion and the other is fantasy football.

When someone posts a "What do you think about this draft?" thread without the proper tag, noone will know if it is a fantasy draft or a suggested Chief's draft.

Yeah, I get that they generally have different seasons, but my vote is to keep them and good and seperate. A little space used up at the top when you first come into the site doesn't seem like a good enough reason to combine them.

Is the fear that newbies will wander in and think the site only has four posts in the last month by accidently falling into a subforum?

Dartgod 01-03-2012 11:40 AM

I didn't even know what the default settings were. I have the DC forum hidden, but didn't really know what view the guests get.

SO I logged out and see that by default, the draft forum is hidden but the DC forum is not? What kind of ****ed up logic is that?

Now that I've had time to think about this, I think that the draft and FF/Gambling forums should remain separate. The default view for anyone should be Media Center, Draft Forum and FF/Gambling, with the latter turned off during the offseason.

DaFace 01-03-2012 11:57 AM

Lemme try and catch Kyle via IM to chat about the tech side of "hiding" forums by default. If we can make that work and only have a handful shown by default, I'm OK with leaving them separate and "available" year-round.

Dartgod 01-03-2012 11:58 AM

What about DC? Why is that one in plain view while a legitimate football sub-forum is hidden?

Because it's the most heavily used subforum?

Yeah, pretty much. DC, Media Center, and Pictures all have volume WAY above Draft Planet and Casino Planet, so they're all shown year-round. Historically, the latter two share time.

Heavily using would certainly describe the majority of the posters in there.

Personally, I have no stake in either. I hide the DC forum and never venture in there. I rarely read the draft forum and never post there.

I just thought it was odd that we hide a football subforum and leave that cesspool in plain view.

Personally, I think football sub-forums on a football board are ridiculous... and while I care about the draft, I don't care for all the speculation and mocks. I care about discussing needs and prospects, but don't care to speculate about the same small group of players for several months leading up to the draft. However, I do think the amount of mock drafts and 'who should I start' can be a bit much, so I understand why there's a separate forum.

And sure, it's something worth talking about pretty much year round... the first page of Draft Planet basically goes back to the beginning of November. If we combined the two right now, it would basically push everything from DraftPlanet off the first page that was before 12/25, but the first post on the 2nd page would be from 12/20, then 12/15.

For CasinoPlanet, there were two threads posted between 2/24/11 and 8/4. There are 8 pages from August until now, where DraftPlanet has 2 between 5/29/11 and now. That's almost no overlap. If you're there everyday or even once a week, I'd think you would never have to click the 2nd page or use prefixes to catch all new replies in the combined forum. The biggest overlap will probably be Dec/Jan.

Once again.

I started a mock draft thread. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT.

It consolidates all the mocks and allows for draft conversation to flow freely.

Then a mod moved it.

To an unrelated forum.

Why would you do that, then continually bring up these bullshit complaints? Shall I dig it up from Casino Planet?

If you want your ideas to make this place more suitable for yourself then consider this thread an invitation to voice your ideas. I personally guarantee coming in with an attitude somewhat similar to that of my ex-wife will get you exactly nowhere.

Stop acting like victims of my pissy behavior.

It's been prompted by years of mods not giving two shits about the biggest influx of talent this team has: the draft.

Above is the mock draft thread idea I started.

Which was started with the EXACT SAME goals that the mods keep complaining about here, i.e. too many mock draft threads.

The thread was promptly moved to the Casino forum.

Explanations, anybody? Any reason why we're complaining about too many mock threads when a designated mock thread was moved without so much as an explanation?

I'm going to let this be my last post on the subject, before the conversation goes in unproductive areas. I've said my piece.

But this is really, really crappy.

The thing about DraftPlanet its not really just about the Chiefs, you get the whole broad spectrum of the NFL discussed in it. Its basically the purest football talk on this board, with not much trolling at all to be honest. It is a board that with all the resources and different insight the posters on here bring, is one of the best in all of pro-football. CP Mock Draft is the best thread of the year on the entire board, its pure football and with the expection of Hootie making an ass of himself generally troll free.

My suggestion would be to put the Fantasy Football and Gambling section in the Media Center and rename that entire thing - Entertainment Center since that is what Fantasy Football and Gambling is more than the DraftPlanet. Then DraftPlanet can stay in the spot where the Casino is year-round.

Again what is the problem with leaving it up year around? Other than the summer months, the draft can really be talked about all year - especially during college season.

I'm quoting these posts to show my agreement with their content.

I want to apologize for my tone throughout the thread.

I don't mean to come off as a dick. As a rule, I try to save that for the DC forum. :D

I just feel like submerging my favorite forum on ChiefsPlanet robs the Planet of the full football experience.

I've been rebuffed numerous times and largely ignored on this issue for years now. It's just built up the frustration and boom, here you have it.

I know you think I hate you and DraftPlanet both, but we're really trying to find a way to make this work without adding unnecessary clutter. That's why we posted the thread.

Buck 01-03-2012 06:05 PM

I just wanted to show you something from PatriotsPlanet

I took a screen grab from their main football forum and their version of the lounge.

First of all, their header is about an inch larger than CP's. And they have 5 stickies at all times, meaning their members have to scroll for...1 SECOND (the horror) to get to see what they want. So wtf is the big deal with adding 1 more subforum up top?
