All costs being equal, Tolbert (though I think Hillis has more upside). But if you can get Hillis on a safe, shorter term deal, he's a perfect make-good, play hard, candidate. He's Shaun Smith in your backfield. If anything, I would worry that if a guy like Tolbert has to settle for a short-term deal in a year he thought he would cash in, you'd get mediocre effort from him while 'pouting' similar to how McClain started the year. Like I said - I understand the risk and appreciate the concerns. But the alternative way to look at that is to view it as an opportunity to get a very skilled guy that fits our team well who is both motivated and underpriced. Zigging when everyone else does gets you to .500. If you don't have an elite quarterback in this league, you need to go against the grain here and there. This is a good opportunity to do just that. |
Pretty good thinking.

I have very little doubt that Cassel will be the game one starter due to Pioli...but I have to wonder how long his leash will be if we spend all that cap space on pieces around him and he still doesn't improve.
I truly think the guy only makes it to the halftime of the game prior to the bye week. Then, StanziMania takes it's first steps. |

I'll pay him when he's cheap and cut him loose when he isn't anymore. I want him for a year or two at most. I'm not impressed by folks that debate points that only they make. |
So Brent Celek is funny...

Its definitely risky, dude is a flake.
The situation kinda reminds me of Ricky Williams... would we get the painfully introverted Ricky who'd rather get high with Lenny Kravitz in Barbados? Or, the dedicated & renewed Ricky who put in some great years for the phins? |

you can cheer this all you want, he's a ****ing quitter when the going gets tough..he's going to be what kind of influence in our locker room, exactly? |

Whoever started this thread missed a big opportunity to title it "Peyton to visit Chiefs."

But is Cleveland not probably the most dysfunctional organization in the league...not in Cincinnati? Again, I know he's risky. But we're not going to be in as good a shape as a most other teams in this league at the most important position on the field. We have to make some high risk/high reward moves in light of that if we hope to close the gap. Hillis' track record prior to last year was superlative, he was universally regarded as a very good teammate. If you're going to take a risk, why not take it on a guy that has legit upside and not exactly a long, prolonged history of malfeasance. If we only take sure things and pay retail for them, we're going to have a harder time getting over the hump with a mediocre or worse QB situation. |
DO NOT WANT.
