when Scott traded for Cassel i was under the impression he brought Matt in as a stopgap QB but 4 years later we see Mr Pioli's building the team around this piece of shit.

I think Cassel has the raw skills to be a top 7 QB. He just needs a better supporting cast. By 2014, I hope we have the team to live up to Matt's potential.

Why would anyone think that Cassel was brought in as a stopgap?

You don't trade a high draft pick for a young QB to bring him in as a stopgap.

That's a decision you make if you believe that said QB is the guy you build your team around.

I wanted someone other than Scott Pioli as the new GM when Carl was fired, based in part by the fact that believed that very thing would happen, and I wanted no part of Matt Cassel.

His throwing motion is horrific and he has sub-par arm strength. The ONLY skill that he has that is top 7 is his toughness. (Damnit).

i said from day one Cassel was another version of Scott Mitchell and i thought he be gone after two seasons but the Chiefs played the NFC West in year two and planted false hope with MC.

the problem is matty c is nowhere near elite in any way. eli has the tools and he never had to pump himself up, he just kept working hard and he finally did reach elite level of play.

but you have to understand what makes eli an elite prospect worthy of a #1 pick and what makes matt cassel a 6th round prospect.

there is the locker room aspect of being an elite QB. eli has his team believing in him and cassel does not. the reason is obvious -- cassel doesn't win games for his team whereas eli, by year 3 was winning some big games on the way to beating the Pats in the championship. the dallas game was huge.

if matt cassel puts in another season of misfires, I'm confident crennel is going to bench him and go to quinn. but that is a final move, so I don't expect it to happen until the team's chances at a winning season are dashed.
