It's a trade-off I guess. They didn't get to enjoy their 20s while I was out seeing the world, but they will get to do it in their 40s and 50s with more money.

Yep, I was a broke ass when I was in my 20s, I was better off staying home with the wife and kid anyway. Now I'm in my 40s, much more financially stable, he's grown up and I can pretty much do whatever the hell I want. It's ****ing awesome.

enjoy the read, Clay, especially this fine gem:

During this time, as you pursue the relationship, you’ll be the one initiating the majority of the dates (if she’s a “keeper,” you should be initiating almost all of them), thus making it your duty to pick up the tab. Please note that nowhere is this more crucial than on the first date; regardless of the situation (she asks you, she insists on chipping in, you’re in purgatory), a true gentleman will unfailingly pay for the first date — it’s the honorable thing to do.
It had be until it said 'it's the honorable thing to do' and that's when I realized why you two split that first bill LMAO

Hammock Parties 12-02-2014 12:10 AM

We split it because she offered.

Because she's nice.

That's it. That's literally ****ing it, dumbass. There is no game being played here. She wants to see me again. Despite the fact that she is $20 poorer today. HOLY ****ING SHIT.

Dumbass.

He's a 35 year old that is still playing the dating game like a 15 year old. He's making up for things he never got to experience as a teenager. Saying things like "I look for girls with no father figures because I don't want to have that talk with dad!"

uh, Clay that 'talk' only happens when you're dating 15 year olds and you're also 15.

Pretty sure as a 35 year old you're not going to have to worry about someone's dad giving you the 'talk' about their 25-35 year old daughter. Or, really, even if they're 18.

And if an 18 year old is choosing a 35 year old Clay Wendler than ... pretty sure that dad already knows she's ****ed.

Wrong. It happens when you're interested in putting a ring on their finger, dumbass.

PS - I'm 32.

well no shit she offered

every first date I've ever been on the girl I'm with reaches for her purse when the bill comes out or says something like "no you don't have to pay!"

duh

It's dating 101. Literally. 101.

If you have a miserable date and the girl wants to split and you know you'll never want to see her again, then, fine...if you want to be a total asshole and split then more power to you! (As an adult, I'd still pay, and just be happy the date was over...but whatever)...

But awful.

Just awful.

But I guess this is the same guy who refused to tip until he was 25 years old so ... why should I be surprised?

See? Hours of entertainment. Like a reality show. "The Double Date with Hootie and GoChiefs - tonight on Spike TV."

Nothing you say...literally NOTHING you are saying in regards to the tab debate...matters.

IT DOES NOT AND DID NOT MATTER.

IT WAS IRRELEVANT.

Well, I thought you may have been talking about that talk ... but ... again, if you can't handle asking for permission from the father of the girl you're wanting to marry than you're about as awkward as well, everyone already figures.

Katipan 12-02-2014 12:17 AM

Be careful what you wish for Clay. Girls with daddy issues aren't just dirty.

They're crazy.

I can "handle" it, I just think it's ****ing stupid.

If I'm in love with a girl I'm going to wed her no matter what daddy thinks. I'm not interested in proving myself to him.

**** all that shit. This isn't 1955. This isn't an episode of The Bachelor.

The best part would be getting the bill at the end and Clay reading out, "ok Mary owes $12 plus 1/4 of the 9% sales tax so about $12.90, Jamie you owe $14.84 because you got the sauteed mushroom upsell plus the diet soda, Hootie 2.0 you owe $26.48 because of those two cosmo's you ordered, and I'll pay the rest of the $7.25 on the bill since I only had a grilled cheese with no crust. Oh **** I forgot about the tip...let's start this over. What's 12% of $12.90?"

I split a bill with a girl and it literally had zero negative repercussions.

TimBone 12-02-2014 12:21 AM

Hahahahaha.....this whole exchange has been excellent.

Clay, you didn't tip until you were 25?

Well, if a girl ever decides to marry you, I'm sure the least of her concerns are going to be whether or not you asked her father for permission. She already stooped to the Internet to find a partner, pretty sure she's not worried about if said partner is an old fashioned gentleman ...
