True story. Don't forget King Carl was about to lose DT when his accident happened. Dorsey was good at finding talent, just not very good at paying for it wisely.

I agree with the OPs setinements and the thing you have to love about Veachs style is he is aggressive. With that said the Brown trade has to workout better than the Clark trade. While the Clark trade worked out well for the 19' post season run everything outside of that has been a disappointment. Thankfully we can walk away after next year if it doesnt work out. Unfortunately for Brown he wont have such luxury and at a higher price tag.

People knock the Watkins signing over Robinson singing but Watkins flashed at times during the regular season and particularly in 18' the offense wasnt the same when he didnt play. That 18' draft was kind of a flop even with that said theres still guys from that draft who contribute.

I loved Dorsey and still think hes a good GM but I'd say Veach gets the edge acquiring talent overall and cap management which isnt even close.

Good post, but with the bolded part, we can walk away if needed from him. He is still on the last year of his rookie deal and we can still franchise him which would be cheaper than what he would cost if we resign him. I do believe that Veach and Reid did their homework on the kid first and I don't believe they would have traded for him if they didn't believe he was better than who they could have gotten at #31 along with being a good fit long term.

Just reading about the Vikings GM and wow. He’s the most risk averse guy out there. No wonder the Vikings haven’t won shit. Makes me feel even more happy to have Veach

Spielman thus learned a harsh lesson about the draft.

Playing it cheap isn’t likely to land you the quarterback of your preference. According to that video released by the Panthers, Minnesota wasn’t willing to part with their 1st round pick in 2022. GM Scott Fitterer wasn’t even going to entertain a deal under those circumstances. One can imagine the same scenario played out for Minnesota when they called Denver, Dallas, and New York. The offer wasn’t good enough.

This continues a trend for Spielman throughout his tenure in Minnesota. When it comes to the 1st round, he is consistently careful. He’s never traded up once in his long run with the team. His boldest move at QB was trading a 1st for Sam Bradford back in 2016 and that was done out of pure desperation after Teddy Bridgewater suffered his catastrophic knee injury. The rest of his tenure has been about settling for guys.

Christian Ponder in 2011. Bridgewater in 2014. Cousins in 2018. Now Kellen Mond in 2021.

Ponder, Bridgewater, Bradford, and Cousins is a giant vacuum of suck.
