According to an ESPN reporter just now, Hamlin was awake at one point before he was sedated. And that the family is overall in good spirits. So that's a tiny bit of good news anyway.

Excellent

Looking forward to hearing about those moments after he's back fully conscious, leading up to comic instant he asks: "they did what?"

$42,400 shy of $5M raised in just under 24 hours. Absolutley remarkable.

It would seem to me, if we don't have some positive news this time tomorrow it's not good.

Go Chiefs

Just fyi: I remember Chris Pronger, former Blues defenseman, having nearly the same thing happen to him during a game. Heart stopped, etc. He returned to the ice in about a week, iirc.

I wonder when they're going to start waking him up? 24 hours from the incident, or 24 hours from when they sedated him? When they started cooling him down? When he got to the hospital?

About 3.5 hours from when he started receiving attention on the field . . . I guess any time after that . . . God, I hope he wakes up and says something about being hungry.

CNN just showed an interview from his uncle and he said they had to resuscitate him twice, once on the field and once at the hospital. Also they have him in the prone position and the heart doctor on CNN said probably has a ton of fluid around his heart and it is not functioning correctly if they have him in this position.

I listened to sports radio on the way home. mpls

Dan Barriero runs a good show. Was critical of the Pitchfork Social Media crowd. Said he felt like because the announcers etc had no idea what to say and there is no protocol for this, there were people just waiting to pounce on the one off comment that could start a hashtag.

This is where we are. More worried about not saying something bad instead of the person in the hospital.

I just listened to the interview. I think what he was saying is that the ventilator is no longer breathing for him 100% of the time and is now only 50%. Different from being on 100% Oxygen (I’m not sure that is even possible).

Asked the wife. This means that at one point they were giving 100% oxygen. This is not super uncommon apparently. Moving down to 50% is still a normal amount for an intubation during surgery so he is still having breathing done for him, just that he doesn’t need as much oxygen for a variety of reasons so it’s a mix of oxygen and regular air. Regular air is 21% oxygen so he will need to be able to show signs of that before removing the intubation. Says in general him needing less oxygen is a good sign though.

Always appreciate your wife’s inputs.

Read somewhere else that moving him down to 50% is a sort of 'test' to see if his lungs can handle the work on their own or they'll increase it back up. That accurate?

JustDíqLix 01-03-2023 07:31 PM

Just read they resuscitated him twice. I didn’t know that before.
