Yes, considering he was sub-par last year...

Sounds like they are sticking with Zach.

Also, nobody is even saying the can't climb out of that 0-3 hole. Of course they can, but they still aren't winning a SB.

I think teams generally wait far too long mired in mediocrity under the stupid thought of "just make it into the playoffs and see what happens!!!!".... and I'd rather see the Chiefs pick wrong in the first round instead of half-assing the QB position for 4 ****ing decades....

..that said, I do think it's more complicated than that. For starters, the #1 pick or top 10 pick is just the chance at a QB better than Cousins. For every Chiefs team that clutches onto mediocre QBs, there's are teams like the Browns and Jets who have been striking out with high draft picks for decades.

Trade Cousins in week 3 and are you worried about your star WR sticking around longer term? Other talent sticking around? Do you want your coach and OC on board or sticking around?

And maybe the answer to all that is the Vikings shouldn't care, just blow everything up, sunk costs and all.

If the Vikings are 1-7 or 0-8 right at the trade deadline then maybe they could justify looking to the future… but if the Jets are equally as bad by then, it would be too late for Cousins to help save their season.

He's trying to convince just himself at this point.

They just won't have a 2nd this next year and are you that desperate that you'd give up a 1st for one season of Cousins? And would the Vikings trade him at this point in the season for a 3rd? I doubt it.

Not only would they have to give up a 1st but add in there a 3rd and 4th as well. Cousins is a top 10 QB in this league and the Vikes have all the leverage. They would need to retain most of his salary so if the Jets want him, it will cost.

O.city 09-25-2023 03:20 PM

Cousins is a free agent after the season so yeah the Vikings should strike while the iron is hot

tredadda 09-25-2023 03:21 PM

Honestly trading for Cousins is a win/win. Minnesota does not have the defense to make them competitive and will probably not resign him next year anyways. He hurts their chances of snagging a top tier QB.

The Jets are so committed to this year that sticking with Wilson would be catastrophic. They are all in this year and at this point Cousins is a major upgrade over Wilson. Cousins with those weapons and defense could make a lot of noise.

Whle I agree, Minnesota has drafted a QB high every few years. Daunte Culpepper, Tavaris Jackson, Christian Ponder, Teddy Bridgewater. I think those guys were all 1st round picks. They are about due for another one... they just suck at it.

Jackson wasn't a 1 and Culpeper was good for awhile..

Ponder sucked hard and Bridgewater was a low 1 who is ok but his knee injury killed his career there.

I’m actually gonna disagree with you here. They’d be trading him away to clear space to revolve their franchise around Justin Jefferson. It’s the move Seattle wanted to make for years and I bet they wish they had done sooner. It’s probably more Alex smith in that you know he’s not putting that team over the top at age 35.

Get some picks back. Tank to pick up a great pick in a real rock solid draft. Use that money to secure your stud playmakers while freeing up space to go after more weapons.

You know you don’t have to take people at face value, right??

WTF else is he going to say.

You can't trade for a QB in the middle of the season and have him start and run an entirely new offense. And nobody is going to trade their starting QB away after week 3

Their best bet is to try to get mediocre play out of Wilson and maybe boost his trade value as he bides time for Rodgers to return.

"This is the guy on my roster. All the good ones are on someone else's roster. So what the **** else can I do?"

Yeah - I'm not sure he has much choice here...
