'80 Steelers are our third elimination.
End of the dynasty. Just dug up an ancient video of the game that ended their dynasty, it's hilarious LMAO |
The end of the Steelers dynasty

Super interesting parallel here with Montana injured in Week 16 1990, and the game ending with a fumble as the 49ers were driving, just like the NFCCG.
Of course, not as durable as Mahomes, who will play. A good omen?

The Chiefs can EXCEED the pace of the 1990 49ers this Saturday, if they go 14-1 on the quest to threepeat.

The 49ers, perhaps due to an injury to Joe Montana, dropped to 13-2 in Week 16 in 1990.

Steve Young failed to deliver on a potential game-winning drive in a 13-10 loss to… pic.twitter.com/fA92hQ2jzT
— 📽️ Red Tribe Cinema (@ClayWendler) December 20, 2024
 |

Threepeat Watch Week 16
2024 Chiefs: 14-1 2005 Patriots: 10-5 1999 Broncos: ELIMINATED 1994 Cowboys: 12-3 1990 49ers: 13-2 1980 Steelers: ELIMINATED 1976 Steelers: 11-4 1974 Dolphins: ELIMINATED 1968 Packers: ELIMINATED AND THE CHIEFS STAND ALONE ATOP THE THREEPEAT LEGEND The Dolphins lose in the playoffs. The Steelers win their first playoff game. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GfWsfcFW...g&name=900x900 |
The Chiefs, at 14-1, exceed the pace set by the 1990 49ers (13-2) in the quest for a threepeat.
Because Patrick Mahomes is more resilient to injury than Joe Montana. Because the Chiefs don't turn the ball over four times. The Chiefs are accelerating at the same time the 49ers began to lose momentum. They are now in uncharted territory, and the great barrier is on the horizon. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GfWyP_qW...jpg&name=large |
If we can complete the 3-peat that makes Mahomes

The Chiefs can continue to outpace the 1990 49ers tomorrow by going 15-1 in the attempt to scale Threepeat Mountain.
Though the 49ers would finish 14-2 with a Week 17 win in Minnesota, an OMINOUS first half shutout saw a complete disaster for the San Francisco offense, including Joe Montana. Steve Young would bring the 49ers back to win on a late TD, but there was no question at this point. The 1990 San Francisco 49ers were anything but surging as they headed into the postseason.

The Chiefs can continue to outpace the 1990 49ers tomorrow by going 15-1 in the attempt to scale Threepeat Mountain.

Though the 49ers would finish 14-2 with a Week 17 win in Minnesota, an OMINOUS first half shutout saw a complete disaster for the San Francisco offense, including… pic.twitter.com/FA1eRKAeSG
— 📽️ Red Tribe Cinema (@ClayWendler) December 24, 2024
 |
Threepeat Watch Week 17
2024 Chiefs: 15-1 2005 Patriots: 10-6 1999 Broncos: ELIMINATED 1994 Cowboys: 12-4 1990 49ers: 14-2 1980 Steelers: ELIMINATED 1976 Steelers: ELIMINATED 1974 Dolphins: ELIMINATED 1968 Packers: ELIMINATED Another one bites the dust. The Raiders get over the hump in the 1976 AFC Championship and deny the Steelers first attempt for a Threepeat. The Chiefs again separate themselves from Niners. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GfsumvbX...g&name=900x900 |
Another one-score win for the 1990 49ers in the long gone Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. Running on fumes in their bid to Threepeat? Worst 14-2 team ever?
Couldn't be the 15-1 2024 Kansas City Chiefs, breathing easy as they approach the summit of Threepeat Mountain. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GftAHe2X...jpg&name=large |

The Chiefs will be ONLY the 6th team since the turn of the CENTURY have started 15-1 or better.

The road to the Super Bowl runs thru KC again…Just an unstoppable force, man.
— Chase Daniel (@ChaseDaniel) December 25, 2024

From the games that remain and the current seeding it seems extremely likely the AFC wildcard games shape up to look like this:
#7 DEN V #2 BUF #6 LAC V #3 BAL #5 STL V #4 HOU There's a pretty good chance Buffalo and Baltimore beat on one another in the Divisional round while we are on cruise control taking on the winner between Pittsburgh and Houston. The Football Gods are practically begging us to 3-peat. It's ****ing destiny guys. |

So in reality we most likely play the Steelers or the Texans again barring an upset for the Chargers or the Donx |
