Our playoff run is nothing without Mahomes. Putting Mahomes behind a backup LT against one of the better DLs just days after a potential high ankle sprain, then asking him to recover on the road to play again on a freaking Wednesday after 3 travel games in 11 days doesn’t sound like the bestest of ideas either.

In Pittsburgh we’ll have Humphreys and you’d think a much healthier mahomes versus a short week dinged up version of him. We very likely also get Hollywood in this game versus rushing him in versus Houston. I hate the idea of looking past a week but if there ever was one, it would be this game in the middle of a brutal scheduling stretch

I know mahomes is tough but right after a pretty significant injury do you want mahomes playing a short week followed by a very short week? Or would we rather have one long recovery week. I’ll go with the long week. This is why you pay backups the big bucks. It isn’t to lead a playoff team, it’s to steal a win or 2 when called upon. And we’ve seen before even with a way lesser qb in henne reid is capable of dialing up a masterful gameplan that is just good enough for even a backup qb to do that. It kind of falls apart as the defense adjusts but it’s doable for a game or 2.

Hear me out. They only need to win 2 of 3 regardless of what the Bills do. So with a win next week, why not rest the starters Xmas day, the 3rd game in 11 days, and give them 11 days of rest for the Broncos? Then get a week off before the Divisional.

No.

It is not an insult to Mahomes that we would want the best version of him going into the playoffs knowing the buck starts and stops with him. This isn’t about him being bad. This is about protecting him because he is crucial to our success. I don’t think anyone is considering that we’re asking a just injured star qb to play 3 travel games in 11 days. That recovery is tough enough for a healthy player let alone a key player with lots and lots of early rehab and mandatory rest periods.

No, just have Mahomes go full-on Tom Brady and throw almost nothing beyond 15 yards, and run the ball a shit ton until he's at least close to 100%.

No shit...it's like they've never watched Mahomes. He'll play unless his foot is amputated.

They are going to start ramping up...and Brown should play. Bills coming off an emotional win might drop one to the Jets...not expecting it but could happen, it's a divisional game.

If the Chiefs win and Bills lose..they can rest up for a month. Bills have given up 40+ in consecutive games...not what you want heading into the post season. I think they've allowed around 1000 yards of offense in the past 2 games.

Correct. I don’t think anyone is advocating for Wentz to start all three games, but putting an injured Mahomes back in this Saturday is a recipe for disaster. This Saturday is the second of their three games in 10 days. He needs a break because if he goes down, I don’t think Wentz can lead this team to a SB win.

I don’t think playing Hollywood makes sense. I don’t want him playing his first minutes in a year and then turning around a short week.

Getting the guy who isn’t in football shape on the field only to turn him around on a 4-day road prep week doesn’t seem ideal. Same reason we shouldn’t play Humphreys. Maybe a few reps to get the juices going again. But we are not so desperate that we need to risk long term injury for the sake of a single game. Get these guys ready to play for Pittsburgh and build from there.

Mahomes could have finished yesterday's game if necessary.

If he is able to play, I believe he will. At the earliest sign of mobility issues or pain, there's a good chance he's benched for the game.

No it's not ideal but there is no scenario at this point that is ideal. If guys can play they need to play. It's crunch time.

The question is also can Mahomes move around well enough to avoid sacks and protect himself… because Houston has the second most sacks in the league.
