Nice ball placement here that allowed for YAC.

Avoided the rush and stayed in the pocket and found the open man here. Really nice stuff.

Runs it in for the TD. Definitely felt like Wilson here.

I didn't say that. Phantom pressure bothers Smith just as much.

Adam Teicher ESPN Staff Writer
Saturday's rookie report from Chiefs training camp: quarterback Patrick Mahomes II ran the first training camp two-minute drill of his career like he was a veteran. He looked off a safety to hit tight end Ross Travis for a big gain to begin the drive. He then completed two passes to running back C.J. Spiller before running the ball in for the touchdown himself to complete the 75-yard drive. Mahomes needed it only 1:05 of the 1:58 he was given.
This is awesome

cmdrzman 07-29-2017 02:42 PM

You guys do know it's Okine and Rush on the edges and all UDFA's and 2nd string players right?

They aren't allowed to go full steam and even touch the QB's

Whattya say we calm down a little before giving Mahomes the 2017 MVP award?

Mahomes II can only take advantage of the opportunities given to him and that's what he is doing. He will build up to the rest just fine but no matter what this is exciting stuff early on in camp.

He is worth the hype.

Hammock Parties 07-29-2017 02:47 PM

I actually thought the first pass to Ross Travis could have gone for a TD (you can hear me yelling in the video), but they blew the whistle. No matter, TD three plays later.

Coming from the guy who talked all last week about the potential in your teams rookies. You don't get to criticize anyone for getting excited about a rookie.

Its all relative. The offense and defense consists of backup and third string players, so that makes no difference.

I don't think anyone is 'giving him the MVP award'. People are just excited to see the kid do well, in his first 2-minute drill no less.

Alex is doing really well in camp, too. Credit given where due, doesn't matter who it is.

He probably could have scored - they just wanted to extend the drive and see what else Mahomes would do. I'm sure they were pleased.

Did Travis look like a baller out there today?

Could you see any tangible difference from last year?

pugsnotdrugs19 07-29-2017 02:59 PM

Using the fact that it was a 3rd team defense Mahomes was facing is nearly irrelevant, in this instance.

It doesn't matter if the defense was filled out with backups when the offense was too. Pressure is pressure. Good coverage is good coverage. It doesn't matter if its Marcus Rush or Justin Houston breathing down your neck in the pocket, you are going to react the same way in terms of pocket presence.

If it makes rival fans feel better that it was a 3rd string defense, that feeling should be negated by the fact that Mahomes wasn't targeting Kelce, Hill, Conley, etc.

I was mostly paying attention to Mahomes, sorry. He did look really good on that throw, though. I thought he was a WR at first.

Hammock Parties 07-29-2017 03:50 PM

Another thing I saw in 7 on 7s was Jehu Chesson absolutely smoking some poor DB for a TD. Unfortunately Mahomes overthrew him by about 3 yards.

thabear04 07-29-2017 03:55 PM

So who this new WR Chiefs sign.

Hammock Parties 07-29-2017 03:55 PM

Other thoughts:

Seantavius Jones really does look like a player. He got excellent separation on one play for deep ball in 7 on 7s, and made a back shoulder catch on another throw. He was running with the 1s.

Dieter Gherig has stone hands and made Mahomes look bad twice.

Tyler Bray is absolute garbage and probably won't make it out of preseason as the #2 at this rate.

Bryan Witzmann started at LG today and actually looked quite good.

Joseph Cheek is the backup LT and sucks monkey nuts. Zombo was smoking him. ZOMBO.

Terrance Mitchell looked real good at CB. He had two or three breakups.

The only guy I saw smoke him was Tyreek Hill, who by the way looks absolutely awesome. He made two deep catches today and two or three intermediate catches that weren't in his game last year. Based on my expert analysis of 2 hours of training camp football he will have 1200 yards and 10 TDs. :D

Oh and that limp dick Alex Smith did have an excellent day of practice but we've been down that road, so **** him!

I'm a little surprised about Witzmann, but I think it is a good idea to try him out there. We need more push in the ground game while Ehinger recovers. Perhaps Witzmann even steals the job completely.

The depth on the interior OL is tremendous right now.

I'm not surprised, especially since they extended him this week.

What's clear through all of this is that the Chiefs just don't want Fulton in the starting role.

They drafted Ehinger to start at Left Guard but when he was injured, Fulton took his spot.

Now, a year later, with Ehinger on the PUP (and likely, IR) to start the season, they have Wiztmann starting instead of Fulton.

That was to be expected, given his background.

But one year later and after training with Glazer and Gonzalez, I'm excited to see if there's any improvement.

Right. That was my concern: there is no way to determine if it is execute as told, or find the open man. I was just hoping you may have seen him scan frequently. It was tough to tell in your vids.

Thanks anyway. I appreciate the updates.

It looks as if he is looking right, and then comes back to the left to Spiller on the 2nd play.

And on the 3rd one, it appears as though he spots Spiller late, while keeping his head downfield as he is moving up in the pocket.

Think another big part of this is that this is Fulton's last year under contract. He's a nice backup, but I wouldn't pay him.

I hope he tries to find a job at C in FA. I think he could start for a team at that spot.

The media now sits with fans. Actually they sit farther back from the fans if they want to park under the tent.

In River Falls, media was allowed to stand on the sidelines not 15 yards from the players.

It's a different era.

If the fans were allowed to be closer, who's to stop a rival scout from recording 7 on 7 and 11 in 11 practices and using that video against the Chiefs?

I'm actually kind of suprised they're allowed to be as close as they are today.

Do you even have any clue about the roster that game? 3 of their top 4 receivers couldn't even suit up that game, Ginn had been injured by the Saints the game prior (Bounty gate, anyone?) . Literally Kyle Williams and some practice squad dude named Brett Swain were starters on the field. Outside of Vernon Davis (who got 2 TD's) it was just Crabtree.

Also, same G-men that shut down the Rodgers/Packers and Brady/Patriots in the playoffs, FWIW.

Delanie Walker was on the field too. Not bad considering Walker Crabtree and Davis were our top 3 receivers when we went to the SB the next season on our offenses back.

Also, same Ravens that shutdown Luck/Brady/Manning in the playoffs, CK7 scored 31 on them with those awful receivers. No excuses for Alex.

I highly doubt that's the reason for that. I mean, what's to stop them from recording the practices now? Cameras have zoom now so not being close doesn't even matter. Also the fact that a team wouldn't really gain any competitive advantage recording training camp practices.

Apparently Justin Houston arrived later on in practice, but is out there playing with the first team. Reid will update media on why.

Bet he had to shit

Delanie Walker was on the field too. Not bad considering Walker Crabtree and Davis were our top 3 receivers when we went to the SB the next season on our offenses back.

Also, same Ravens that shutdown Luck/Brady/Manning in the playoffs, CK7 scored 31 on them with those awful receivers. No excuses for Alex.

Delanie wasn't a significant player until 2 years later. He got an average of 2 looks per game in 2011.

In fact, walker didn't have a single reception the 7 previous games before suiting up against the G-men in that loss. Didn't even suit up to play against the Saints ROFL

How many points did the 49ers have before the lights went out had gone down at least 3 scores? They essentially scored those points in 'garbage time'

milkman 07-30-2017 08:33 AM

Delanie Walker's targets and catches went up significantly in 2013.

Just coincidence, I guess.

Why don't you two Niner douchebags take this conversation out of the goddanm Chiefs training camp thread. Tiger, I don't understand how you haven't been banished to the romper room. You are a completely worthless human being.

Mahomes looking legit

Bye bye Alex

RunKC 07-30-2017 08:49 AM

Mahomes is throwing to Tyreek with Peters defending? Yeah this isn't normal. They are really pushing to see what he can do.

That makes me think he has a chance to play later this year.

Only if KC is out of playoff contention. With the talent on this roster, that's not very likely.

Peters beaten deep again by Tyreek Hill, this time the throw from Alex.

Sounds like Tyreek is tearing it up.

Aside from Mahomes, the players I am most interested in watching this preseason are Kareem Hunt and that Eligwhe(sp) kid.

We need player in both those position groups to step up.

Also extremely interested in DaMarcus Robinson and Bryan Witzman.

All of this.

Robinson in particular is very intriguing.
