No tie, because the game didn't tie. It needs to be just like no game happened at all and final standings are set by winning percentages at the end of week 18.

Obviously, I'd prefer that an actual game take place at some point, but it looks like that ship has sailed.

This is about 2 things and 2 things only.

Bills players refusing to play and the NFL not wanting bad PR.

That's it.

Next time something like this happens, it'll be the same mass speculation and waiting for a decision while people reference Hamlin.

Didn't Cincinnati choose last year to sit starters even when they could improve their seed? I wouldn't rule out them doing it again. If it's a difference between home Fields perhaps that is a different factor compared to last year.

Whether it was intentional or not, Cinci ended up with the best possible draw last season. Raiders and Titans were the best possible path for the non-1 seed to get to the AFCCG.

I'm not arguing what I would do. I'm with you. I'm just saying they did it just last year. Have to look up that could have happened. I think they had a chance at 5 but rested and stayed the 6? I don't remember. This situation is different but just remember they have shown a willingness to protect health over seed.

The country also willingly wanted the games to be played. It wasn't disrespectful, it was more considered patriotic to play.

Yes, but 1/ only because Burrow was hurt in the prior game and they wanted him to be fully healthy and 2/ they didn’t control their destiny in improving their playoff seed (ie, even if they won, other teams needed to lose).

Very, very different situation here.

vastly different, I don't know how they fix what is happening to the Ravens. They literally have been eliminated from winning the division through no fault of their own.

Exactly... so move the playoffs back a week and play the Bills/Bengos that week. Games go on this weekend. If the Bills refuse to play then they can forfeit. There are already conventions in the rulebook for the forfeiture of a game.

As others have already said. Once Bill/Bengals know the outcomes of this weekend games, they might play differently, if they don't play before this weekend (a window that is likely shut) they shouldn't play that game at all...

Go back to 6 teams in the AFC. Top two get byes. AFC South champ doesn’t get to go.

I prefer the old format. The 7 seed doesn’t really do much but add a mediocre .500 team to the playoffs.

Fishels 01-03-2023 02:31 PM

Why does the NFL not already have a plan for this? It was bound to happen eventually

Rain Man 01-03-2023 02:32 PM

Since we're all throwing proposals out there, how about this?

The Chiefs, Bills, and Bengals, all play on a triangular field. Each team rotates so that two of their units (offense, defense, and special teams) are playing on different parts of the triangle playing each of the other teams.

And the game is played at a point on the earth that is equidistant from all three cities, which I think would be somewhere north of Thunder Bay, Ontario.

That would just start the problem with the four teams who have a shot at the 7th seed. It would be a shitshow. Buffalo should play tomorrow then Monday or forfeit. They were likely going to lose last night anyway as sharp as the Bengals offense looked and losing another Dback early in the game before the Damar injury.

To keep everything fair, we would also need to eliminate the NFC South champ, so brady would have to go home.

I'd like to see the Bills organization step up and take the league off the hook by forfeiting the game. They made the necessary decision to pull their team from play. They weren't going to win that game after the injury.

Maybe they want to wait until more is known to announce anything football related. But this feels like the right thing to do for all concerned.

That's good to know. I couldn't remember all the details. Burrow being dinged up does sound right.

chiefsfaninky 01-03-2023 02:44 PM

The right thing to do is to (respectfully) ask Buffalo, what they want. They know if they forfeit, they likely play Cincy or KC on the road in playoffs, but let them decide their fate... If they play, great, if not, much respect to them.

How about a Mexican standoff between the Chiefs/Bengals/Bills?

The AFC playoffs become a home and home between the three teams. The best record advances with head to head used as tiebreaker.

The other playoff pretenders are eliminated. Sorry to the Jaguars, Patriots (LOL), Dolphins, and Steelers. If you're 8-8, you don't belong in the playoffs anyway.

The Ravens weren't going anywhere this year without Lamar (or even with him for that matter).

The Chargers had a punchers chance but the bad luck falls on them (they're used to it by now). Plus, their fans won't be offended since they don't exist.

The risks are kind of well known when participating in violent activities, I think.

No clue if that's an accurate stat or not, but there's no question that all sports come with risks - even those that are individual. You can die in an avalanche while skiing, drown while swimming, get lost in the wilderness while hiking, etc.

Is that the tranny in the picture with Lou Brock?

During World War II, the Eagles and Steelers were briefly merged into the Steagles. Is that an option here? Give the Bingells the #2 seed and let's move on.

Lol if the Bills are just handed the 1 seed I’d rather forfeit against the Fade and use it as a bye week. These people are just dumb.

Are you just keyword searching in a hunt for bad takes, or what? I'm pretty sure your posting this here has bumped the view count by an order of magnitude.

Even stuff like this isn't unheard of.

Christian Eriksen with Denmark in 21

Jay Bowmeester with the Blues a few years back.

Chris Pronger got hit in the chest with a puck and had a cardiac event

That's if you don't keep track of how many times this happens in youth sports and such.

There was also that basketball player who played for Florida State who plays for KSU now... he collapsed during a game with a heart issue and his teammates decided to play on.

Only if the Chiefs can merge with another team. I nominate the Titans.

No one will defeat the Chitans.

Someone really almost dies --> cancel the sport

Someone gets booted from an internet thread--> cancel CP because it's gone to hell and the mods are vindictive assholes

Chiefs go down by 7 in the first quarter --> cancel the season, rebuild, Chiefs have a real problem at quarterback

Yeah, not seeing your tweet as more sensitive.

I think we need another thread just for bad Twitter takes.

cmh6476 01-03-2023 03:09 PM

I don't think you can push the playoffs back.

How many of you have wc round tix? How many divisional round? Same goes for every other team that will play. How many of us bought those tix based on our availability that weekend? Are they going to refund us if the week changes?
