What this demonstrates is that tensions were sufficiently high. WBC made a good decision not to show.

There's an incredible amount of misinformation out there. Probably a product of the lack of infrastructure there at the moment. During the day yesterday, I read people on twitter who said they had heard that WBC members were shot, tear gassed, beat up, arrested, and more.

In reality, they never showed up. They may or may not have been prevented from getting there by some truckers. (That seems to be a common story, but I haven't seen anything about that on any actual news site.) All we really know for sure is that they didn't show, and a lone guy who had no affiliation with WBC got chased away by the crowd.

Sadly this was not true~

I heard nothing after I was told about the trucker story and still don't know how accurate it was, but it came from legitimate sources and that's why I shared it. It was very orderly on campus after Obama left as well. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I was glad to see the focus where it needed to be.

I was in Joplin today. You can watch videos of it and look at pics, but when you see first hand the damage it is beyond words.

Cars crushed like beer cans, semi trucks ripped to shreads, buildings and houses on top of other houses. Mountains of debris, giant piles of metal twisted and wrapped around poles.

The death toll will be over 500 when they are done.

That part doesn't seem possible unless there's something weird going on with the numbers. There are "only" 146 confirmed dead by the morgue, and the missing list is down to 29. Not that (as many as) 175 dead is any less depressing.

Really? How can that be? The death toll right now is at 139 confirmed dead. Only 29 people (yes, twenty nine) are on the missing person's list.

There is actually a warehouse with hundreds of dead that are trying to be identified.

Theyre taking their sweet time IDing people so there aren't any mishaps. Considering where the storm hit it seems unlikely to me that it's that low. If it hit during school hours, or even after school'd be out, it would've easily touched 1000 and possibly gone higher.

They are not releasing all the details of all the dead yet because of the families. Some bodies are so bad they can only be identified by dna.

My girlfriend is the manager of an ambulance district and many of their emts went to help but were turned away. They stated it was a huge warehouse with bodies.

Seeing the destruction I am suprised over a 1000 were not killed. It looks like it was carpet bombed for a week.

I thought the same thing. The death toll should be over 1,000. There were 8,000 homes and 1,000 businesses destroyed, including places like Wal Mart, Home Depot, Academy Sports, etc, that were leveled and we're only at 140 deaths is unbelievable. But, I know a lot of people in this town and I've only personally known 3 people that died. I find that amazing.
I don't know how many stories I've heard of people riding it out in bath tubs or by clutching toilets or water heaters. Then you look at their house and those were the only remaining structures.
