Wish they hadn't played Chaminade. A waste of what could have been a perfectly good non-conference game and no real way to develop any of the players.

Greene needs to STFU and learn to play defense....
If he does, he wont have to complain about playing time to the HC.

Why?...Lucas and Ellis don't have to play defense. Selden doesn't have to play much defense, which is funny considering Self believes he's our "stopper".

Not really sure why others get a pass, but Greene doesn't.

*Should note that I don't really give a shit about Greene. It's more bitching about why some players can make numerous mistakes and never get pulled, but god forbid Bragg or Greene make a mistake.

Last I checked we were 8-10 all time vs them or something. I believe Wooden was 5-0 vs us. Really wanted to close in on them and the tie the Indiana series at 7-7. But they tapped out last night in fear of us

Yeah, this is pretty much the truth. Also, I don't really think Greenes lack of defense will make up for the offensive fire power he gives us. Plus, Greene is long. So you can "hide" him if you will by putting him on a defender that isn't fast or doesn't drive very well and he can still cover certain guys well even if he does suck at defense.

Nonetheless, he's got to get better at D someday. It might take game time situations for it to click. At least Svi was draining them at a decent clip against Chaminade, but like N Colorado, they play no perimeter defense so not sure how much stock we can place in those results.

I wouldn't doubt it, but it makes for a convenient excuse to play Svi extended minutes for a few weeks so I don't mind. His ceiling is just so much higher as a player.

It's all about the effort and acceptance to coaching in practice. If Greene doesn't put forth the effort that's being asked, he ain't gonna play consistently. Regardless his skill-set is. Some coaches will put players out there regardless of behind the scenes attitude, some just won't do it. Self had a LOT of really high character players for years. Leaders that would get after other players. KU hasn't had that for several years now. Selden, Wiggins, Ellis, etc... those guys have not been the leaders that Taylor, Robinson, (even the Morris twins as Juniors), Chalmers, RussRob, etc...

It's ok to have silent followers on the team... but you have to have leaders that demand excellence of each other... We haven't had that. There's been a massive void since Releford and Kevin Young graduated.

Selden does things Brannen Greene could only dream about. If you don't understand how impressively bad on defense Greene can be, then I dont know what to tell you.

Greene constantly goes under screens and just kind of saunters back into position. Graham fights tooth and nail not to get out of position on off-ball screens, as does Svi. They understand that defense is all effort and give it.

If Brannen Greene actually woke up every day for practice and said "I am going to be the best defender KU has ever seen," he would be starting in a week.

I don't think Greene can move laterally well. Especially with power. I was watching him in the MSU game and he was bad physically on defense. Hopefully it is his hip because he missed the first game yet.

It would be great if he gets the message and gets healthy and becomes a plus defender.
