Moving laterally.

Its a combination of factors. Reduced ranged of motion is prob the biggest, leg press will focus more on quads depending on foot position and not so much the glutes & hip flexors, which are usually weak links for people. If you want to squat big weight, you need to work on glute accessory movements like glute bridges, glute-ham raise, reverse hypers and such. Leg press wont do dick for your squat. Hack squat machine is an OK accessory, if your going deep.

What Aspen said. Plus, the back tends to be another weak link for people, which is why you can squat more than half of your back squat with one leg.

When I do the leg press, I nearly bring my knees to my shoulders. My feet are usually about 1-2 inches from the outer edges.

And when I squat, I get my butt as close to the floor as it will go. I always know after I do a squat if my trainer is going to say "deeper"...lol. I can feel the difference when I don't go all the way down.

when you leg press, are you holding a tight lower back arch and NOT letting your low back off the pad? most ppl I see that try to 'touch' their knees to chest are letting their lower back off the pad.

My trainer is all about form. He's definitely instilled that in me. My lower back stays planted.

I also like to melt it and toss cubed sweet potatoes in it before roasting them. The flavors work well together.

Regular potatoes get the fried in duck fat, which is the pinnacle of fat IMO.
