I think this week is when the real work begins. The camera crews will all be gone, the spotlight off, and the actual rebuilding starts. It will be interesting to look at Joplin, say, by Labor Day, so see what progress has been made in the clean up and rebuilding process. I hope it exceeds all reasonable expectations.

I doubt the affected areas will even be cleared by then. Come back in 8-12 months.

Doubtful. According to homeowners my friends encountered yesterday you have til the 6th to clear out unsalvageable property. Bulldozers come in then and wca is contracted with the city to dispose of rubble.

Particularly important for kids to get a mental break from this kind of stuff.

..and they're asking homeowners to separate their stuff into six piles.

Electronics
Appliances
Hazardous Waste (i.e. motor oil, tires)
Vegetation
Construction Material (siding, roofing)
Household Trash

I think this only applies to those with damaged homes, rather than destroyed.

For you guys that have been down there, Did Fred N Red's at 17th and Main make it through OK? I haven't seen anything about damage, assuming it was just far enough north to be spared?

Daughter of the owner reported just a window broken on Facebook.

Edit: she also said on Sunday they're planning to reopen this week.
