How was Maclin a mistake again?

The tampering is what I was referring to. I loved the signing and didn't have an issue.

Do any of you guys think the delay could be the Chiefs are working on an extension with him or massaging the salary cap to pay him?

No. Seems like the Seahawks are asking for too much in trade compensation.

That's fine, we don't agree.

I don't think Mahomes is a flash in the pan. I just don't gamble with the future when I have a winner right in front of me.

I said earlier:

When a guy is up $50 on the nickel slots, he cashes out and moves on. The guy that continues to put in nickels thinking he can increase his winnings is the guy that ends up going home broke.

To me that mindset only makes sense if you think Mahomes is the best he's ever going to be. If he's a flash in the pan then yeah, bet the farm this year. If we think he's an ascending player who is going to have a great career, then build for him to be surrounded by talent for all those years.

I think there's a lot better chance they can build a great defense over the next several years than there is that they can make this awful defense decent with duct tape and baling wire at midseason.

I'm sure they know a team that's up **** creek when they see one and they aren't going to give a discount for that.

Dude should want to play on a contender. Cowboys aren't that.

pugsnotdrugs19 09-24-2018 09:54 PM

I doubt we make the move. Report today was that they expect Berry and Sorensen both to come back and I doubt they feel the pressure to get the trade done given that.

I guess what I’m saying is, I can’t see the Chiefs overpaying for this at all. They’ve got some insurance in their back pockets.

And that’s stupid of them.

Sorensen is coming back from a major injury and Berry will never be 100%. You add Thomas to this defense and it instantly becomes a contender.

I agree, I’m just saying what I read today..

If they view Berry and Sorensen both as guys who can come back and contribute, I don’t see them giving up good picks and signing Thomas to a long term deal anytime soon.

If anything, I hope they’ll use Berry/Sorensen as leverage until Seattle will maybe settle for a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

I think you are really overrating the impact of a single defensive player, even a star player, on a team's defensive performance. The Houston Texans had the #1 defense in the NFL in 2016 without J.J. Watt, who was supposedly the best defensive player in the league at the time.

When Justin Houston tore his ACL in 2015 coming off his crazy 22 sack season, the line in Vegas for the next Chiefs game didn't move at all. And prime Houston was a much more impactful player than Earl Thomas. Either this team is a contender now or it isn't, but adding a single defensive player doesn't move the needle in either direction. Its just the nature of defense, where one star player still can only do so much because he has to play within a system and rely on the guys around them to do their jobs as well.

I can see your point to an extent but then you watch teams like Pittsburgh, whose defense hasn’t been the same since losing Shazier, and wonder just how impactful a player can be..

Look at the Raiders without Mack. They can’t rush the passer, can’t win a game.
