Well I don't want to go hunting with it, just target practice. Looking for something I can do by myself that is fun to do. The only range nearby is indoor so I think there might be a caliber limit.
I'll go check things out in person before I buy. |
Buck, since you are in Cali I have no idea what/how to recommend.
You can get build an AR-15 that will shoot just as good as any bolt for around 500 and it will be a LOT more capable, but the laws out there make you get a bullet button lower. I just finished a 16" Bull that shoots 2-3" groups at 500 yards for under $500. 16" DPMS Moly Bull Barrel $125 Tube handguard $35 Gas tube $10 Blem Upper + Parts $60 Blem Lower $50 A2 Buttstock Kit $60 Lower Parts Kit $40 Bolt Carrier Group $69 Charge Handle $20 DPMS Bull barrels are amazing. Bolt actions are cool, but I have yet to have a bolt action fan shoot a good AR and not be seriously impressed. |
Not the best price price I've seen, but the best price out there right now. 22LR 7 cents a pop. If you have a Cabala's, decent deal with the free shipping to the store.

Feel free to post some good Black Friday deals.
I'll start it of by posting the link to Palmetto State Armory. Too many deals to list, and it changes daily. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ |

I ordered 25 boxes of Estate 00 buck ($6.99 per 25 shells) last week, and it should arrive Monday. Hell of a deal for 00 buck. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...ds-1127n0.html I don't think I will make it through the weekend without ordering more stuff from them. Probably gonna grab a complete AR15 pistol lower, and maybe a rifle lower. |

Armalite is going to have 20% off all rifles on Monday.
www.armalite.com SWFA has a very nice sale going on mounts and their scopes. I might get a 5-20HD. :hmmm: www.swfa.com Palmetto will continue to rape and pillage my wallet. I am waiting for their flip-up iron sights to go on sale for $59 only because I have already purchased every toher god-damn they have to offer. Oh, they have Aimpoint Pros for $365. I have one and they are excellent. |
Quote:
I need a set and would probably buy another set to use as a gift. |
Quote:
Damn, that is tempting. I will have to consider buying an AR10. Hell, maybe even an AR50 with that big of a discount. |

Cyber Monday score! 20% off all in stock rifles at Armalite. I blame Notorious for alerting everyone to this deal. :D
Just ordered a .308 rifle direct from Armalite. Its their Defensive Sporting Rifle 10 (DEF10), which ended up being $799 plus $25 shipping. Technically not an AR-10, but who cares. http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.asp...2-95f6afe8e6cf Almost ordered the Defensive Sporting Rifle 15, which would've been about $560 with the discount, plus $25 shipping. Sale ends in 30 minutes. |
Nice work Munson.
A DEF 10 for $800 is a steal. That's Palmetto cheap for a .308. The only thing I would change on it is the buttstock. Armalite was bought out this past year, so I hope they keep up their high standards. I am really thinking about getting the SWFA HD scope. If I didn't completely choke I could have had a Vortex Razor EBR-2 for $1350. :( I was really disappointed in my father's Vortex Viper's clarity. Our Redfields were a LOT clearer at all mags. That made me flinch when the Razors went on sale. Stupid, stupid. $2000 scope for 1350 and I shit the bed Cassel-style. |
Does anyone have experience with the Beretta Nano 9mm? I want to get a smaller carry gun and the one I really want (Springfield XDS) is over priced. I'm also considering the Ruger LC9 and the Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield.
UPDATE: I found what looks some really good prices on these at Kentucky Gun Company (kygunco.com). Smith & Wesson M&P SHIELD 40 S&W - $329.99 Smith and Wesson M&P9 Shield 9mm - $374.07 Springfield XDS 9mm Pistol 3.3in - $499.12 Beretta BU9 Nano 9mm - $362.99 These prices beat every place I've checked, especially for the M&P 40 and the XDS. |

https://www.classicfirearms.com/m44rifle -or- https://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=7006 Classic Firearms has the "Bore - hand select best of 5" and "Exterior COSMETICS - best of 5" options, for $10 each. This would bring the price, before shipping, to $250. Wideners, on the other hand, doesn't have those "pick of the litter" options, but their price is $169 for an M44 which is the lowest I've seen. I want to get one in good shape, but that's a big difference in price. What would you guys suggest? Has anyone ordered any firearms from Wideners? |
Quote:
If you have a gun store near you go to it and try to hold as many as possible..a gun that fits properly in your hand and you are comfortable pulling down on a target is much more important than worrying about paying more or less for one If there is 1 thing to trust me on it is this..if you ever have to pull it to use it the more natural it feels in your hand the more it will be an extension of you and you will use it more effective and efficient |
I have yet to find a Conceal gun better than the XDS.
I would avoid an LC9 like it was AIDSPOX. |

The M44's from Widener's may be counterbored, which is probably why its so much cheaper. I don't see it as a big deal, but it does affect value. I'd also look at AIM Surplus. They tend to have the nicer surplus guns. I got my 1943 Mosin 91/30 from them last year, and was very satisfied with the rifle they sent me. It was in nice condition, with a pre-war stock, and matching numbers receiver/bolt/magazine if I remember correctly. Their M44 is the same price as Classic, and they also have a hand-pick option. http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...62x54R+Carbine If you want a shooter-grade Mosin that is easy on the wallet, go with Widener's. If you want a nicer Mosin, I'd go with AIM Surplus. All this Mosin talk makes me want to get another M44. |

Did you choose the hand-pick option? |

Another long-time fan of AIM here. I've bought several guns and a LOT of ammo there over the years. I realize that no one has cheap ammo anymore, but in 2 years I hope it goes back to nearly normal when Dear Leader takes his money and runs. They usually carry surplus ammo, as well as new PRVI Partisan ammo. PRVI is pretty good for the price (reloaders, their brass is 'ok to good' per my buddies, maybe not as sturdy as some US stuff so don't look to reuse it 80 times)

Any suggestions on accessories? I plan on getting a vintage sling and a recoil pad for starters. |
Quote:
I don't think a recoil pad is necessary, unless you plan on shooting nothing but new production 7.62x54. I've found that it kicks much harder than the commie military surplus ammo that comes in sealed tins. |

If I had them, I'd use them. It makes loading a lot easier. |
I'm trying to trade a Beretta M92 for am XDS straight across the board, thought I had a taker but I think the guy is flaking out.

Good price on 223 PMC Bronze - http://www.slickguns.com/product/223...pmc-bronze-899
And I've never tried zinc plated steel casings, but $0.22 per round is a great price if your gun is OK with them - http://www.slickguns.com/product/mfs...9-5-sh-over-99 |

$900. What is your opinion of 30-06? I do not deer hunt. Worth getting? Thanks |
Found a Springfield EMP 1911 9mm in stock early this morning, and had to buy it. I was shocked, because you can never find a 9mm EMP in stock anywhere.

Anyone seen the press on the new Taurus Curve? Looks interesting if they ever come out with it in something other than .380.

My work put me through the NRA's firearms instructor training school a few weeks back. So I put together a package for CCW instructor and submitted today. Assuming everything goes well I'll be able to start teaching CCW classes in Missouri fairly soon. Not trying!advertise but if anyone would appreciate that it would be the fellow gun guys here. Im going to have a few other classes as well and have decided to start a small business based around firearms and personal defense. Im pretty excited about it.

Has anyone experienced this with their M&P 9? |
What is the going price on a Mosin Nagant?
I've got a nephew that keeps wanting to borrow one of my rifles to take care of a few of the deer on his land but I prefer my guns right where they belong, in my gun safe. So I'm thinking of getting him a cheap but safe and reliable high powered rifle. Alternative ideas welcome. |
Quote:
That rifle kicks like a mule though. Might want a soft stock guard or some type of shoulder padding. Those Russkies in WWII were apparently made of some stern stuff. |
Quote:
|
For your nephew, think about a worn-but-working lever action 30-30 from a pawn shop - they'll sometimes be in the same price range and they're a lot easier on a newbie's shoulder. Ammo is not AS cheap, but it's cheap for a centerfire - and available at every filling station/gun store in America in boxes of 20 instead of having to buy 500 rounds online or wait for a gunshow. I have 4 or 5 Mosins and like 'em well enough but there's a reason there are so many old 'thuty thuty' rifles out there.
|
I tried finding a used lever 30-30 for my mother earlier this year, and had a helluva time finding one for cheap.
|
Probably true. When Dear Leader finally goes out to pasture it may be easier to find old rifles for a reasonable price. Let's hope so.
|
Finally got a chance to pick up a few firearms from my local FFL:
- Colt AR15 - 5.56 NATO 1/7" twist removable carry handle LE/gov't marked receiver - Armalite DEF10 - .308/7.62 NATO 16" barrel adjustable M4-style stock flat top upper and railed gas block AR-10A marked receiver - Colt Detective Special revolver - .38 Special 2" barrel Nickel finish The Armalite is brand new, and both Colts are used. Can't wait to test them out. Pics to follow next week. |

Cabela’s advertises a 91/30 Mosin Nagant for around $140 but BOCF has a good idea about searching the gun/pawn shops for something like a used .30/30. That would be a great brush rifle for hunting deer in SE Kansas. Thanks for the advice guys, good food for thought. |

Here is the new Springfield EMP 1911 9mm, and the 1975 nickel Colt Detective Special snubbie(.38 Special, 6 shot, 2" barrel).
Also included my Mil Spec 1911 for a size comparison with the EMP. |

And here is the Colt AR15. Not sure what model it is. I need to call Colt to find out for sure.
The outside of the upper/lower receivers cleaned up pretty good for a former LEO gun. No dings or scratches that I could see. The inside of the barrel was nice and shiny, but the bolt carrier group was filthy. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned for at least two thousand rounds. Cleaned it out as best as I could for now. |

And here is the new Armalite DEF10, bought directly from Armalite on Black Friday.
