You can get build an AR-15 that will shoot just as good as any bolt for around 500 and it will be a LOT more capable, but the laws out there make you get a bullet button lower.

A DEF 10 for $800 is a steal. That's Palmetto cheap for a .308. The only thing I would change on it is the buttstock.

I am really thinking about getting the SWFA HD scope. If I didn't completely choke I could have had a Vortex Razor EBR-2 for $1350. :(

I was really disappointed in my father's Vortex Viper's clarity. Our Redfields were a LOT clearer at all mags. That made me flinch when the Razors went on sale.

Does anyone have experience with the Beretta Nano 9mm? I want to get a smaller carry gun and the one I really want (Springfield XDS) is over priced. I'm also considering the Ruger LC9 and the Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield.

Classic Firearms has the "Bore - hand select best of 5" and "Exterior COSMETICS - best of 5" options, for $10 each. This would bring the price, before shipping, to $250.

Wideners, on the other hand, doesn't have those "pick of the litter" options, but their price is $169 for an M44 which is the lowest I've seen.

I want to get one in good shape, but that's a big difference in price. What would you guys suggest? Has anyone ordered any firearms from Wideners?

I have a buddy that shot the nano..he liked it..said it fit his hand well..his hands are smaller than mine..he is 5'9 and I'm 6'3..I have the XDS and love it..I almost always carry it..I have the M&P 40 as well..I like that gun a lot too but I just prefer my XDS

If you have a gun store near you go to it and try to hold as many as possible..a gun that fits properly in your hand and you are comfortable pulling down on a target is much more important than worrying about paying more or less for one

If there is 1 thing to trust me on it is this..if you ever have to pull it to use it the more natural it feels in your hand the more it will be an extension of you and you will use it more effective and efficient

I have yet to find a Conceal gun better than the XDS.


I would avoid an LC9 like it was AIDSPOX.

I've never bought from Classic, but I did buy an AK from Widener's. No issues with them, other than it took about 5 or 6 business days for them to ship.

The M44's from Widener's may be counterbored, which is probably why its so much cheaper. I don't see it as a big deal, but it does affect value.

I'd also look at AIM Surplus. They tend to have the nicer surplus guns. I got my 1943 Mosin 91/30 from them last year, and was very satisfied with the rifle they sent me. It was in nice condition, with a pre-war stock, and matching numbers receiver/bolt/magazine if I remember correctly. Their M44 is the same price as Classic, and they also have a hand-pick option.

If you want a shooter-grade Mosin that is easy on the wallet, go with Widener's.

If you want a nicer Mosin, I'd go with AIM Surplus.

Another long-time fan of AIM here. I've bought several guns and a LOT of ammo there over the years. I realize that no one has cheap ammo anymore, but in 2 years I hope it goes back to nearly normal when Dear Leader takes his money and runs. They usually carry surplus ammo, as well as new PRVI Partisan ammo. PRVI is pretty good for the price (reloaders, their brass is 'ok to good' per my buddies, maybe not as sturdy as some US stuff so don't look to reuse it 80 times)

I bought a Ruger LC9 when Palmetto was running that one with the Viridian green laser for $299.99. It's a decent gun for conceal carry. Very reliable and accurate. The only drawback is that the trigger is a little longer of a pull. That may not be drawback to some. But overall, I really like it and would recommend it.

Best damn pistol I've ever shot as far as reliability and being able to hit stuff with it.

A sling is all you really need.

I don't think a recoil pad is necessary, unless you plan on shooting nothing but new production 7.62x54. I've found that it kicks much harder than the commie military surplus ammo that comes in sealed tins.

Do you use stripper clips to load? They don't seem like a must have, but it seems a lot of people get them.

What is the going price on a Mosin Nagant?
I've got a nephew that keeps wanting to borrow one of my rifles to take care of a few of the deer on his land but I prefer my guns right where they belong, in my gun safe. So I'm thinking of getting him a cheap but safe and reliable high powered rifle.
Alternative ideas welcome.

I bought one a couple of years ago for @ 60$, but I think they are closer to $120 now, demand has really gone up.

That rifle kicks like a mule though. Might want a soft stock guard or some type of shoulder padding. Those Russkies in WWII were apparently made of some stern stuff.

Speaking as a recent buyer, prices have gone up. But they're still probably the cheapest option out there. The cheapest I found a 91/30 for was $149 I think. If you go to different models (I got the M44), the price goes up. I paid $219 for my M44 + shipping + FFL xfr. Its still well below $300.

For your nephew, think about a worn-but-working lever action 30-30 from a pawn shop - they'll sometimes be in the same price range and they're a lot easier on a newbie's shoulder. Ammo is not AS cheap, but it's cheap for a centerfire - and available at every filling station/gun store in America in boxes of 20 instead of having to buy 500 rounds online or wait for a gunshow. I have 4 or 5 Mosins and like 'em well enough but there's a reason there are so many old 'thuty thuty' rifles out there.

Probably true. When Dear Leader finally goes out to pasture it may be easier to find old rifles for a reasonable price. Let's hope so.

Yeah, the only really cheap 7.62x54R ammo is the surplus stuff. If you buy better quality boxes of 20, the prices go up much closer to other centerfire ammo.

Heh, I bought my SKS pre Clinton ban for $60 still packed in Cosmoline. Wish I’d have bought 10 of them back then.
Cabela’s advertises a 91/30 Mosin Nagant for around $140 but BOCF has a good idea about searching the gun/pawn shops for something like a used .30/30. That would be a great brush rifle for hunting deer in SE Kansas.

It's not worth in money what it's worth just to have a reliable piece like the 1100

I'd say $300 - $350 would be a fair price for a used 1100 in good condition.

The outside of the upper/lower receivers cleaned up pretty good for a former LEO gun. No dings or scratches that I could see. The inside of the barrel was nice and shiny, but the bolt carrier group was filthy. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned for at least two thousand rounds. Cleaned it out as best as I could for now.
