Exactly.

And being a business, Tony signed a deal and cashed the check AFTER Herm Edwards was hired here.

You guys can blame Herm for this all you want. He IS a bad coach. But Tony knew what he was getting into when he signed the extension.

It's on his head, and his head alone.

We all know it doesn't work that way in the NFL. If the team felt let down by Tony they would cut him, Contract or not. Just ask Nappy. Tony feels let down by the team, how is it different?

If this was LJ or Brian Waters would we have the emotional posts over this? I doubt it.

I don't feel bad for them one bit.

They are being paid millions of dollars to play a kid's game.

Not everyone gets to hold the Lombardi Trophy.

Hell, some guys don't win more than four games a year, eh?

What could they possibly be pissed about?

Why are you a fan then, Mr. OnTheWarpath58? Just to watch guys run around on grass in colorful, tight pants? With all respect, you don't make much sense, sometimes.

The "goal" is to win the Super Bowl. That's how the whole deal is organized and all.

Player know going in that contracts go one way in the NFL.

The team's way. And that's the reason why bonuses are so important to the players - they are the only guarantee the player has.

The only thing the team owes Tony Gonzalez is his agreed compensation.

So they don't owe him or the other 52 any commitment to winning?

Yet we don't see half the league asking to be traded, now do we?

You honestly think that the organization WANTS to lose?

Jesus, it's getting bat-shit, tin-foil hat ****ing crazy around this place.

If this was LJ, everybody would be on Carl and Herm's side. Way to much emotional attachment to Gonzo IMO.

I'm a fan of the team ahead of any single player.

See the quote by Herb Brooks in my sig.

I think if players took that quote to heart, the game would be a hell of a lot better.

FAX 10-14-2008 10:19 PM

Half the league has "hope" (even if they're not winning at the moment) that things will improve, Mr. OnTheWarpath58. In this case, we can only hope that Herm doesn't introduce the double reverse field goal.

Actually, you have it backwards. Salary is the only guarantee (and even salaries aren't really guaranteed in the NFL). Bonuses are kind of like...

bonuses.

No, I don't think they want to lose. I also don't think they are committed to winning. The keystone cops routine that we call a front office only plays as long as Clark allows it. When he gets committed to winning he will change it, not until then.

I'm just guessing half the league aren't on the hall of fame track either.

This is kind of a special case, wouldn't you say?
