So who are the big winners and losers in this?
Pollard McBride Raji( Probably moves up in the draft now) Losers Hali Maybe Dorsey? |

But the fact is, there were more people who believed that Hali would be ok at RDE end than those who didn't. I guess that means there's alot of people around here with less than half a brain. |

warren was the 13th overall pick in 2003. can't seem to find any contract details other than the extension he signed, but you can deduce that it was likely for cheaper than seymour's contract (drafted lower), and a year or two less. so, likely 5 years, 12 million would be a reasonable guess. seymour was the sixth overall pick in 2001. his contract, according to wiki, was 6-years, $14.3 million contract. let's compare... dorsey: 5 years, 51 million dollars. seymour AND warren COMBINED had roughly 26 million in rookie contract dollars the nature of the beast in today's nfl is that top five rookies make way too much coin. you certainly don't move them to positions that they've never played before and risk busting out on your HUGE investment. to move dorsey solely to the 3-4 DE is patently absurd. can he play 3-4 DE as a gimmick look? sure, why not. but as ONLY a 3-4 de? that's just plain stupid. and one thing we know, scott pioli is not stupid. |

Yeah this opens up alot of good things with free agency, Bart Scott, Terrell Suggs, Julius Peppers (if Pioli believes he can play in that system). Good times I say.

Lack of direction and identity, however, are statements that are made when teams lack talent. Plain and simple. Talent trumps everything. You don't record 10 total sacks because a "lack of direction." You get these results when you ****ing suck balls. And that's the unvarnished truth. Anyone can try to polish this turd as much as he'd like. It's still a piece of shit. |

do me a favor. go back and read my posts again. pay close attention (read: try to up your reading comprehension)... here, I'll give you a few minutes. alright, back? yet? no? here... another few moments... WHERE THE **** DID I ADVOCATE PUTTING GLENN 'PUTT-PUTT' DORSEY AT NOSE TACKLE? answer for the dumbasses in class... I didn't. and I haven't exactly lobbied for a 3-4 in the first place. I've stated that it wouldn't surprise me if we went to a gimmick 3-4 look on occaison, but stay in the 4-3 as our base defense. interesting tidbit--the 4-3 DT (specifically the 1-gap passrushing DT) is where dorsey fits in best. we had him out of place this year, as a 2 or 3-technique who takes up blockers. anyway. in all seriousness, please do EVERYBODY a favor. try not to go 'simple jack' on us when the men talk football, ok? |
If we switch to a 3-4, Dorsey will have to become the DE to eat up blockers.
There's just no way he could be our NT. He's simply not big enough. |
As mentioned by Schefter, where does Dorsey fit in? He really doesn't have that 6-5, 6-6 height you see in the better 3-4 ends such as a Richard Seymour, Ty Warren, Igor Olshansky or a Brett Keisel. He (Dorsey) really reminds me more of a Mike Patterson (Eagles) who is a 4-3 guy through and through. Tank Tyler probably fits better as a NT in the 3-4 than Dorsey and I can't think of where Turk McBride will play. He just doesn't fit anywhere.
Tamba Hali probably can move to a rush linebacker spot similar to the way Pendergast used Calvin Pace when he was on the Cardinals. Hali did play standing up in a limited role his rookie year so it's possible he might have some success with that. Derrick Johnson should be decent at either ILB or OLB so keeping him around would be good. I think this bumps Terrell Suggs straight to the top of my Free Agent wish list but I wouldn't be suprised to see the Chiefs make a play for Bart Scott either. It's exciting to see a defensive shake-up after being bad to mediocre for the last 8 years but it's not going to be a smooth one year switch. I do like that Pioli's experience is in 3-4 linemen and linebackers. |
