in baseball they get millions before even making a major league roster

then there is also the guaranteed contract in baseball which leads to players coasting for much of their career.

rookie slotting should be in the next CBA ... football still has the best system.

Technically, Berry hasn't made a roster, either. The baseball slotting system is far, far more in line than the NFL's model.

The NBA is the best.

Eh, like baseball, the draft part of basketball is pretty good. People get a set amount of money so there's no ridiculous contracts like rookies in the NFL.

Big improvement over Carl's posturing.

Can I frame this quote?

They do have a good system, but, I don't agree with giving a #1 overall pick a ton of money when he hasn't played a down in the NFL yet. Thats just me.

I only say that because there are no guarantees. We've seem either boom or busts. If the guy pans out, great. If not, as an organization, the best prospect coming out of the draft that you depend on to make your team better, can set you back from both a personnel and financial standpoint. Kinda puts organizations in a bit of a landslide.

I'd like to see that economical aspect of the game change. Im more in the thought of, give rookies a certain flat base salary and reward them afterwards based on what they do later on in their careers.

Yes I agree. However, keep this in mind, a guy like Lebron or Crosby signs a deal with lets say Nikey, and instantly off the bat these guys are millionaires. Without even playing. Its unbelievable I tell you

Who knows what endorsement contracts are like. It wouldn't surprise me if they're every bit outrageous.

so you equate me "not liking the philosophy of our 2nd round picks" as being the same as the never ending, daily pioli/cassel/draft attacking bitchfest? Really?

Most first round draft picks in MLB will sign for less than 3 million. After that, they are going to make 400K a year for their first several years as a pro. Most guys don't even make their big money until they are 25-27, unless you hit Super Two status.

actually i was including the entire salary/contract/draft system

there really isn't an official slot system in baseball either ... occasionally players try and bust out of the "standard" dollars.

if you are talking about draft only then the NBA is the best.

As long as the deal gets done sooner rather than later.
