So LA is about 1600 more miles from Tokyo than Hawaii is. I wonder if and when there will be any noticeable change in the waves off shore here. I know nothing about wave dynamics, especially on that scale.

I watched this documentary one time about an island off the African coast. There is a giant sheet of granite (the size of a 50 story building) on that island that is sloughing off a mountain and, according to the geo-physicists who are studying the deal, when that granite finally falls into the ocean, they expect a potential 90 foot tidal flood to hit the US.

Amazing.

They also said it (the wave) would travel up to 800 miles per hour.

Hawaii might get the tsunami too...

so.. hold off on the "those" jokes until further notice.

The cost of this could reach into the thousands of Yen.

I used to live in Malibu. The Malibu wall finally gave way on PCH-1 and I couldn't get to my condo without a pole vault or some kind of jetpack.

That was nothing like this, though. No dangerous sea urchins underfoot.

I'm not sure this tsunami will hit the West Coast with any force or significance.

Sushi costs will go out the roof and that will cause untold suffering, though.
