fake stuff is both commonplace and popular on reddit. this is just as likely fake as it is genuine.

You disagree?

Obviously, if you're informed about such things, you can get GOOD food at the store.

You can also get GOOD food at a restaurant.

So making a blanket statement about people being fat is misguided, no matter how you look at it.

CHEAP restaurants push huge portion sizes.

Precisely.

Don't pay a tip, that's fine, it's a free country.

But don't bitch when your $8 taco plate is $15 the next time you eat there.

That $8 taco plate I just bought had a actual food cost of $1 and that pop I ordered that cost $3 actual cost was about 10 cents. There is plenty of margin to make your normal overhead and still pay the waitstaff more without raising prices.

Ah, I see your point now. I said "cost-effective", you said "cheap" - that was the disconnect.

I actually agree with you now that I understand what you are saying.

Have you ever run a restaurant? Methinks not.

Yeah, whoops.

Cheap restaurants are plentiful here.

I don't think anyone would shed a tear (other than fat hicks) if Applebees, Olive Garden, etc are forced to shut down because they had to pay higher wages.

HMc 11-02-2012 09:52 AM

good thing that restaurants don't have to pay rent, power, water, insurance, maintenance, cleaning, licensing, etc.

otherwise they might eat into that 7 dollars of pure profit on a 10 dollar meal that you refer to

The customers subsidize the difference.

Boo hoo, I was a server/bartender in college and for a short time afterwards and even though it burnt me to get a bad tip, I still never felt right blaming a customer for not giving me extra money that they didn't have to give.

Besides, the attitude of most servers these days is that they deserve a high tip all the time, simply for doing their job. Nope, sorry charlie.

Bingo

I tend to patronize the family-owned restaurants myself (we have REALLY great Mexican food here).

Same - unfortunately many of them go out of business because they can't compete with those cheap places, even though they have better food.
