No. ***** was bargain shopping in 2009. He wasn't aggressive and he wasn't accused of overspending on solid FAs. There's almost no similarity.

You're conveniently ignoring the "head" part of head coach. The difference in experience between Todd Haley and Andy Reid is greater than the difference in experience between Alex Smith and Matt Cassel.

Who? Uhm....Brandon Flowers, Derrick Johnson & Tamba Hali?

Yeah, Pioli bargained shopped.....that's what Dorsey is doing now....Picking up 2nd tier F/A. Don't get me wrong, i don't mind the signings that he has made....but make no mistake....these are 2nd/3rd tier Quality guys.

Yeah, i conveniently left out some details....but so did you....so what.

Watch out. It's OK to compare Mike DeVito to a washed up Kelly Gregg even though they play different positions, but it's not OK to compare Geno Smith to any failed black QB, no matter how many non-racial similarities there are. It's safer to stick with comparisons to Tim Couch, David Carr, and Ryan Leaf.

That's to be determined.

If Geno Smith or Matt Barkley are top 15 QBs in the next 3 years......this trade was a huge failure. Especially if Alex Smith grades out as......Alex ****ing Smith.

This.

Dude....that's above average after 2-3 years in the league.

Hope.

Sure, he may turn out to be another JaMarcus Russell.

Sadly, we already know that Alex Smith is.

BINGO

The decision to trade for Alex Smith has set the franchise back at least 5 years. 7-8 more considering the team will need to replace every player worth a damn already on the roster.

This is fairly simple. Reid and Dorsey see something in Alex Smith that a lot of people here do not. We'll see who's right this year.

No team is ever set back 5 or more years unless they draft poorly over and over. The NFl is built to never be bad for long unless you almost try to be bad.

This. Or he could end up being benched 4 times in his career like Alex Smith for subpar QBs like Trent Dilfer, JT Osullivan, and Sean Hill.

Good thing we traded for Ale...

****!

wth are you even talking about.

No one here KNOWS Geno Smith, or even acts like they KNOW Geno Smith is going to be a stud. If that's what you think, then the point has completely sailed over your head.

Whooooosh! Look up, because the point is somewhere way up there.

FWIW

Interesting.

I totally agree.

Of course we should ignore his first 7 years in the league.

While we're at it, we should ignore that the Niners tried to replace him with Peyton Manning, when that didn't happen, they drafted his replacement, and within a season and a half, had lost his job to a 2nd year player.

They've been dying to get rid of the guy for years.

The way that everyone was trying to get rid of Rich Gannon? Give the guy a chance

There's a difference between big name guys and top tier guys. No matter what tier these guys are coming from, they aren't bargains. You don't find bargains on day 1 of free agency. That's why Pioli didn't aggressively pursue free agents on day 1. He waited until he could pick over the crumbs later in the process. That's the difference I pointed out. A pretty big difference, IMO.

No, I didn't leave out any detail. You asked for differences and I gave them to you. In your effort to refute so you can maintain your self-delusion about how similar the two regimes have been, you disingenuously ignored the actual difference I pointed out.

Said every Coach who came to SF during Smith's tenure.

Regime Killer. We're replacing one with another.

Exactly.

Geno + Andy Reid = 50% chance at franchise QB for 15 years.

I'd take that in a heartbeat.
