Actually, no.

2011 was ****ing brutal. Every win was garbage.

When you're piling up wins against guys like Curtis Painter and getting your dick knocked in the dirt against real teams, it's a pathetic year. Especially when you blow a playoff berth by losing to the ****ing Raiders and Carson Palmer.

Going 8-8 is like winning the reerun olympics.

Well that is a terrible attitude.. just my opinion. You can like it, hate it, or secretly know I am right and still hate it. That's really your cross to bear.

Sure, there's nothing "WRONG" with that. It's not how I was raised, and I just can't take any enjoyment from "secondary" teams. But that's fine. I do think it precludes you from calling anyone who follows just one team and lives and dies with that team a "bad fan" though.

Wrong again. You are going to extremes to make a point that easily fails. I never have a problem with some doubts. I have a problem with myopic people that are determined to believe in an outcome that has yet to occur.

That's not the impression you gave early, when people were still laying out fact-based criticisms and doubts of Alex Smith.

that pretty much exactly want you're saying

first you say 'They're not doing anything substantial with him(Smith) at QB this year or next"

second you say '8 wins this year registers no more than 2 wins' to you

you are basically already in the 'this season is over let's just lose and get a better draft' mode. You might not say it, but it's there nevertheless.

"well, wouldn't you enjoy a piece?"

Losing 14 of 16 games is brutal, I know... makes for a truly awful year. Winning half of them instead sure does feel a lot better. Makes a team far more respectable, and would continue to give the players and most fans real hope that they are improving for the following season.

Believe me it is more heart breaking to go to the playoffs and not win one for ****ing 20 years. That is something you will never understand as a 49er bundle of sticks fan.

I'm guessing 27 wins over a 7 year period will do that to a fanbase

There are no good or reasonable excuses for this behavior. Man up.

He's suffered a mental beat down through the early years, and just kept getting back up for more.

He lacks confidence in his ability to attack deep zones.
He doesn't need a QB guru to get past that.
He just needs someone that believes in him to push.

Andy Reid might be that guy.

I wish you luck. If Andy gets more out of Alex than Harbaugh did, it is good. It is good for you fans. It is good for playoff competition. It is good for football overall. You can't have too many stud QBs in football or too much high quality play.

Obviously I don't share your optimism. I really feel that Alex's caution and risk averse mentality is a glass ceiling he can't rise above. I continue to say, if he had Aaron Rodgers's attacking mentality, he could be at or near top 10 QB level. But he doesn't. At the end of the day, he is too worried about making mistakes.

This is good 90% of the time, but there are always a few times in every losing game where a QB needs to take an appropriate risk to seek an appropriate reward. So far, we haven't seen Alex do that. You can't throw a 6 yard pass on 3rd and 19 and hope your receiver goes for 14 YAC. But that is the kind of caution we've seen from Alex over and over.

If Andy can perform some kind of Vulcan mind meld or Jedi mind trick to cure Alex of that, then you have yourself a gem. As long as Alex is risk averse, then he is never going to rise above mid-tier. He is a solid, competent QB who can guide a strong team through the playoffs to win a super bowl. If Dorsey drafts a power house around Alex, Alex can guide them to a super bowl win.

But as long as Alex is risk averse, he will never be more than a mid-tier QB.

But I wish you well. If Alex becomes a stud QB, it is good for the state of football overall, so good luck with that.

Forcing shame? Really?

Well then, you have it wrong. I have stated many times the aforementioned when people misunderstood or used extremes to defend their predictions of doom.

Well that was pretty rude for you, O.city. From what I read of you, none of this applies to you. I am much older than 12 and not a moron. (forum opinions vary on that, of course)

If I were a bitter fan and chicken little and someone called me on it, yeah.. that should induce some level of shame over thinking that way.

And the key point is "for you". So get off your high horse and quit lecturing them about it. If it is over the top for you, you have 2 choices. Shut up or leave. It is your problem, not theirs.

That is why they are giving you grief. You are lecturing them on something they have no problem with. Keep it up and you are going to get blasted.

I've seen more than enough mediocre seasons with no shot at winning anything substantial.

Winning 8 games this year does nothing for me. Unless, like I said, Alex Smith morphs into an elite QB while they do it. I don't BELIEVE that will happen and need to see it before I will believe it, but if it did, I would be excited (no matter the win total).
