Heh, I've been wondering this very thing.

Thanks for the info.

I'm sure the NFL is aware that people can mask themselves to look like they are in the Netherlands. The steps in the original post are just an easier way to do that.

I'm not sure the NFL could "close the loophole" without cutting off the free service to people actually in the Netherlands.

Another thing to keep in mind is that 99% of all fans in the US will have no idea about this workaround, or will not be savvy enough to implement the steps.

Forum users are often the exception and not the rule.

I'm not savvy enough to do that, either.

That's why I bought access to a VPN/IP in the Netherlands. :)

I also went ahead and just bought access to a VPN, maybe it'll be a waste of money but I don't want to trust the free method outlined in the OP on week 1. Even if it works, they might get flooded with users.

I went with StrongVPN, they have the oldest, most solid reputation I could find, and they have a 4-country special running right now for servers in the US, Canada, UK, and Netherlands. (huh, what an amazing coincidence, wonder why they picked NE as their 4th country in this special offer during the NFL pre-season)

I tried it out just now, while not connected to anything, the gamepass page tells me that I can't have it, and can only choose their audio service or game rewind. When connected to a VPN in the UK, they offer Gamepass for roughly $150. When connected to a VPN in the Netherlands, they don't ask me for money or an account, they just give me a big green Gamepass button saying "Watch Now"

That is exactly what I get.

I'm using the VPN PR suggested.

Yep, they are counting on the (probably accurate) assumption that the vast, vast, vast majority of people will either not know about this, will be too tech-dumb to know how to connect to a VPN, or won't bother and just go to a sports bar.

If the NFL wants to offer free gamepass to the Netherlands, then there is technologically nothing the NFL can do about this. They have no way of knowing that I live in Iowa, their computers will see me as living in Amsterdam.

This is also going to be useful during the Olympics, you can bypass NBC's stupid restrictions, and watch everything live on the BBC.

The summer olympics are in Rio in 2016, which is one hour ahead of Eastern time if I'm not mistaken. But I get your point. Is there any country that gets MLB.tv for free?

Winter olympics are coming up, though.

Anyway, I don't see any country that gets free MLB.tv. Baseball has internationalized enough so that they can charge everyone for it, while the NFL is trying to get some countries to give a damn about their game.

However, this is going to work just fine to get around blackouts, just switch to a US server out of your team's market. I may go ahead and buy mlb.tv next year.

Trying it out now, I'm now getting NFL network at the max HD quality. About 18 seconds behind the TV. Looks like I'll also have NFL red zone, and the ability to have 4 games on my computer screen at once.

Damn, wish I wouldn't have bought that Madden game for the free Sunday Ticket code now...

OnTheWarpath15 08-18-2013 04:18 PM

Is this just for the preseason?

No, it should work for the regular season, it did last year. The only way the NFL can stop it is if they decide to stop giving people in the Netherlands free game pass.

Being a truck driver, this will be invaluable.
